Things to be aware of!!

This content is for general educational purposes only and is not personalized financial, legal, tax, or insurance advice, nor a recommendation to buy or sell any product. Benefit plan rules, deadlines, contribution limits, and beneficiary procedures vary by employer, plan, and insurer, and may change from year to year. HSA and FSA rules differ, including whether unused funds carry over, and eligibility and tax treatment depend on your individual circumstances. Beneficiary designations are governed by the terms of each account or policy, so confirm requirements with your plan administrator or provider. Appropriate insurance coverage amounts depend on your individual needs, and coverage is subject to eligibility and underwriting. Your raise isn’t the problem. Your new normal is.

It usually happens slowly. A little more income becomes a slightly nicer apartment, more takeout, a few subscriptions, and suddenly the raise is gone and you’re not any further ahead.

That’s lifestyle creep, and it happens to almost everyone.

Here’s a simple way to stay ahead of it: bank half of every raise.

Look at how much your take-home pay went up per month, not the salary number.

Send half of that increase to savings, investing, or debt payoff before it hits your checking account.

Enjoy the other half. You earned it.

For example, if your take-home goes up by $300 a month, $150 goes toward your future and $150 goes toward your life today.

Automate step two so you never have to decide. You still get to enjoy the raise, and your future self gets a raise too.

Save this for the next time you get a raise, and share it with a friend who just got one. 🙌

This past weekend I attended a leadership retreat and one of the activities was breaking through this board.

It was a symbolic experience for me. It was me proving to myself I could do something hard. It was empowering.

This is how I want my clients to feel. Empowered.

Maybe your struggle is believing you can get to the other side of debt, or saving for retirement, or owning a home.

With a plan and belief that it can be done, you can do anything.

What’s your financial punching board right now?

Took a break from the spreadsheets this week to do something that is near and dear to my heart. Got to take Tina Jessick of Fidelis to the barn to see Dante.

He’s been a big part of my life for around 8 years. We used to compete together and now I just go see him and ride for fun.

It’s cool to take the people who share my work life to see one of my long time hobbies. 🤍

Happy Friday

"You need 6 months of expenses saved" gets repeated so often it feels like a law. It's not -it's a generic starting point that doesn't account for your actual life.

The real question isn't "what's the standard number" - it's "what amount would let me stop bracing for bad news?"

Stable job vs. variable income, renting vs. owning, kids or no kids, high deductible or low -these all move your number in real ways. Swipe through to find where you land. 🤍

What's your number? (Or are you still figuring it out? That's normal too.)

If you've been avoiding checking an account, opening a statement, or doing the math on something… this is for you.
Avoidance doesn't mean you don't care. It usually means some part of you is scared of what you'll find. And that fear grows every day you don't look, not because the number changed, but because your imagination filled in the blank.

The relief almost always comes from looking, not from the number itself being good.

You don't have to fix it today. Just look.🤍

What's the one thing you've been putting off checking? (You don't have to answer- just notice it.)

Your 401(k) match might be the closest thing to free money you'll ever get from your job but only if you know how it works.

The part almost nobody explains: vesting. You could be leaving your company before that match money is actually yours.

Swipe through, then go check two things:
Your match %
Your vesting schedule

Do you know both? Be honest.

You don't have to wait until you make “more money” to start being good with money.

Learning how to manage $50,000 well is part of learning how to manage $100,000 well.

The habits come before the bigger paycheck. 🤍
