Q4 is here β and there's still time to make moves that could reduce what you owe when you file.
For business owners, the fourth quarter is one of the most important windows in the tax year. The decisions you make between now and December 31 can directly affect what your tax picture looks like come filing season.
A few areas worth reviewing before year-end:
π Retirement contributions β Have you maximized contributions to a SEP IRA, Solo 401(k), or SIMPLE IRA? These can be meaningful deductions for self-employed owners.
π Business expenses β If there are planned equipment purchases or business investments, timing matters. Purchases placed in service before year-end may be deductible this year.
π Income timing β Depending on where your income puts you this year vs. expected income next year, there may be value in timing receivables or deferring certain income.
π Estimated tax catch-up β If your income grew this year and payments haven't kept pace, a Q4 payment may reduce or eliminate underpayment penalties.
π Entity structure review β Is your current business structure still the right fit as your income grows? This is worth exploring before year-end, not after.
These aren't one-size-fits-all answers β they're questions worth asking while there's still time to act.
