This Labor Day, we celebrate the people behind the work.

The farmers who grow our food. The skilled tradespeople who build our homes and communities. The manufacturers, small business owners, healthcare professionals, educators, service workers, and countless others whose work touches our lives every day.

Behind so much of what we use, enjoy, and often take for granted are people who bring their skill, dedication, and hard work to what they do.
Labor Day is an opportunity to recognize those contributions—and the generations of American workers who helped shape the workplaces and communities we know today.

From all of us at Monon Wealth Management, Happy Labor Day.

We hope you have an opportunity to slow down, spend time with the people you care about, and enjoy the long weekend.

Thank you to everyone who joined Darrick Hutchens and Mike Williams for our recent conversation—and to those who reached out afterward asking for the recording.

The full conversation is now available to watch.

Darrick and Mike covered a lot of ground—from Demogronomics® and The Barbell Economy® to artificial intelligence, the massive buildout of computing infrastructure, generational wealth transfer, and what Mike calls the Age of Abundance.

But one idea tied the entire conversation together:
The headlines may change every day. The structural forces shaping the next decade don't.

Looking beyond today's market raises a bigger question:
What could the world look like 5, 10, or 20 years from now—and what might that mean for the decisions we make today?

If you missed the live conversation, or would like to revisit it, you can watch the full recording here:

We hope you'll take some time to listen. And if the conversation brings up questions about your own financial strategy, we're always here to talk.

🎒 Back-to-school season is here, so let's test your knowledge with a little Tuesday Trivia!

Who can be named as the beneficiary of a 529 education savings plan?
A) Only your child
B) Only a child or grandchild
C) A family member under age 18
D) Almost anyone—including yourself

Answer: D!

A 529 plan can be established with virtually anyone as the beneficiary—a child, grandchild, relative, friend, or even yourself.
And here's another helpful feature: if plans change, the beneficiary can generally be changed to another qualifying family member without federal income tax consequences.

With kids heading back to school, it's a good reminder that education planning doesn't have to begin—or end—with college acceptance letters. Starting the conversation early can give families more time to consider the options available to them.

Have questions about how education savings fits into your family's broader financial plan? We're here to help.

Summer moves quickly. Your financial plan can, too.

As we head toward the final stretch of summer, it’s a good time to ask a few simple questions:

Has anything meaningful changed in your financial life this year?
Have your priorities shifted?
Are there tax, charitable giving, estate planning, or investment decisions that should be addressed before year-end?

The best time to identify planning opportunities isn’t December 31st.

A thoughtful mid-year—or late-summer—review gives you time to evaluate where you are, what has changed, and what may need attention before the calendar turns.

Good financial planning isn’t something you do once. It evolves as your life does.

Sometimes children give us the best perspective.

A young boy was telling his mom about a difficult day at school. After explaining everything that had gone wrong, he summed it up simply: “Today wasn’t the best of days, but it was the only one I had.”

There’s a lot of wisdom in that.

Not every day goes according to plan. Markets decline. Headlines create uncertainty. Careers change. Unexpected expenses arise. Life has a way of reminding us that we can't control everything that happens around us.

What we can control is how we respond.

In financial planning, that often means resisting the urge to react to a difficult day and instead returning to the bigger picture. Why was the plan created? Have your circumstances or long-term goals changed? Or is this simply one uncomfortable day in a much longer journey?

A well-designed financial plan isn't built only for the good days. It's designed with the difficult ones in mind, too.

Whatever today brings, keep perspective, stay focused on what you can control, and remember the bigger picture.

And as always, we're here when you need us.

🧠 Tuesday Trivia!

Who was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for pioneering work that helped shape the field of behavioral finance?

A. Daniel Kahneman (2002) and Richard Thaler (2017)
B. Amos Tversky (1983) and Robert Shiller (2008)
C. Milton Friedman (1976) and Eugene Fama (2013)
D. Elinor Ostrom (2009) and Paul Krugman (2008)

Answer: A. Daniel Kahneman and Richard Thaler transformed our understanding of how psychology influences financial decision-making. Their research reminds us that investing isn't driven solely by numbers—our emotions, biases, and behaviors often play a significant role as well.

Recognizing those tendencies is one reason a thoughtful financial plan can be so valuable, helping investors stay focused on their long-term goals through changing markets.

A Fresh Perspective Can Make a Meaningful Difference.

Whether it's your health, your home, or another important life decision, many of us seek a second opinion before moving forward.

One of the Most Overlooked Financial Mistakes Isn't Taking Too Much Risk... It's taking too little.

When people think about investing, the conversation often centers around managing risk—and for good reason. Understanding your comfort with market fluctuations is an important part of building a long-term financial strategy.

But there's another side of the equation that's easy to overlook.

Being too conservative can carry risks of its own.

Holding too much in cash or avoiding market exposure altogether may feel safer in the short term, but over time it can make it more difficult to keep pace with inflation, grow purchasing power, or achieve long-term financial goals.

The same principle applies in retirement.

While many retirees naturally become more conservative with their investments, maintaining some exposure to long-term growth can play an important role in helping support income needs over what may be decades of retirement.

The goal isn't to avoid risk entirely.

It's to take the right amount of risk for your unique goals, timeline, and financial circumstances.

Successful investing isn't about eliminating uncertainty—it's about finding the balance that allows you to move forward with confidence.

As you review your financial plan, consider this: Are you taking more risk than you need... or less than you should?
