What Are Trump Accounts?
Many parents and grandparents are hearing about the new Trump Accounts and wondering whether their children may be eligible.
Trump Accounts are tax-advantaged investment accounts designed to help children begin building long-term wealth at an early age. Children under age 18 with a valid Social Security number may be eligible to have an account established on their behalf.
Some key features include:
• Eligible children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, may receive a one-time $1,000 government contribution when the account is established.
• Family members and others may make additional contributions, subject to applicable limits.
• Investments grow on a tax-deferred basis, giving families another tool to help prepare for future opportunities.
• The account is owned by the child and managed by a parent or guardian until adulthood.
In addition, Michael and Susan Dell have committed an additional $250 contribution for qualifying children through a separate program. Only the first 25 million activated accounts that meet the program's eligibility requirements will receive this gift.
