No sales tax on the invoice? That doesn’t always mean the purchase is tax-free. Use tax can leave your business responsible for paying tax the seller didn’t collect, while sales tax rules may apply to offerings beyond physical products. In her latest blog, LSL Partner Kelly Telford, CPA, breaks down the difference and shares what business owners should review before an audit brings a surprise. Read more!

Most business owners assume sales tax only applies if they sell physical products. In reality, sales...

It was a full house at Ladies Poker Night! At Andrei’s in Irvine, we sipped Queen of Hearts cocktails, learned when to hold ’em, and discovered who could keep a straight face at the table. Carolyn Craft of American Business Bank kicked things off with a look at the basics of poker and how they connect to business. Then the dealers helped everyone get the hang of it as we put our new skills to the test—using play money, of course!

Thank you to the wonderful women who joined us: Pam Bustos (LSL), Cheryl Orcutt (LSL), Jocelyn Potter (LSL), Rachel Stevens (LSL), Lacy Willis (LSL), Jill Zozula (LSL), Carolyn Craft (American Business Bank), Julie Irving (Sullivan Curtis Monroe), Adrienne Padavich (Rockefeller Global Family Group), Tasia Karas, Jenny Tran (Jenny Tran Law), Bailee Bearden (M3 Mechanical), Suzy Betz, Jennifer Byrne (Grit Capital Partners), Elvia Chavez (MC Electric), Cathy Dickerson (Calvary Chapel), Jennifer Dinnen (MacKenzie Collaborative), Kristin Jefferson (Miracles for Kids), Mari Kurtz (CalPac Sheet Metal), Allison Maturino (KYA Group), Bonni Pomush, Rachel Svoboda and Allie Taylor (Orange Kiwi). You made it such a fun night!

And a big thank-you to our fellow hosts: American Business Bank, Sullivan Curtis Monroe, Jenny Tran Law, and Rockefeller Global Family Group, for helping bring everyone together.

Talk about a memorable few days in D.C.! LSL Partner Justin Jensen, MBA, CPA, got a firsthand look at advocacy in action while attending Family Enterprise USA’s Congressional Family Business Caucus—meeting with leaders, visiting congressional offices, plus the chance to meet California Congresswoman Young Kim. And the trip wouldn’t have been complete without celebrating Family Enterprise USA President, Pat Soldano, at her retirement dinner! Justin was excited and grateful for the opportunity to be in the room, join the conversations, and represent the perspective of the family businesses LSL works with every day.

Great people, inspiring stories, and a cause worth celebrating! We loved having LSL’s Jill Zozula represent LSL at Building Brave Remarkable Women 2026, celebrating some pretty incredible women and the impact they’re making. Even better, the event supported the Girl Scouts of Orange County and their mission to build the next generation of courageous, confident leaders. A big thank you to Jan Ibey with SLR Business Credit for inviting Jill along for the fun!

A great day on the course supporting an even greater cause! LSL Partner Jeff Boxx, MBA, CPA, and Senior Manager Scott Roundtree, CPA, were joined by Matt Davis of Southland Economic Development Corporation and Jim McArthur of Ambrit Engineering for the 4th Biennial Live to Love Another Day Golf Tournament & Dinner Gala.

LSL was proud to support the event as a Silver Sponsor. In partnership with OneOC, the tournament benefits the Living to Love Another Day Community Initiative (Nicholas H. Guy Acevedo Memorial Trust), raising awareness and funds to support young people battling depression.

Thank you to everyone who came together to support such an important cause—and to Matt and Jim for joining our LSL foursome!

The words “audit finding” can sound alarming—but a finding doesn’t automatically mean your organization failed or someone made a mistake. In the first video of our new series, LSL Partner Ryan Domino, CPA, explains how findings can uncover risks and help strengthen otherwise solid processes. Watch now, then stay tuned as he breaks down the different types of audit findings: https://lslcpas.com/what-is-an-audit-finding/
