Idaho State Tax Commission just released today that they have successfully updated the forms to accommodate the conformity to the tax law changes as a result of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, passed in 2025. WE EXPECT THOSE CHANGES TO BE PUSHED OUT TO PREPARERS VERY SOON. These changes will affect ALL software used to prepare tax returns, including the at home do-it-yourself users.

If you've already filed your return and you have Tip wages, OT wages, qualifying new car interest or qualify for the enhanced senior deductions, YOU WILL NEED TO AMEND YOUR RETURN TO CAPTURE THOSE BENEFITS ON YOUR 2025 TAX RETURN.

*** IMPORTANT IDAHO STATE TAX INFORMATION***
We finally have a signed Idaho House Bill 559 that allows Idaho State to conform to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Most don't realize, that Idaho usually conforms to the federal tax law and we don't usually pay any attention to that happening. This year however, Idaho legislature was delayed in making that decision with knowing the conformity would cost money that has already been budgeted for. For the past couple of weeks we've been following the process of HB559 through the House, Senate and other committees until it finally reached Governor Little's desk to be signed this week. He signed on Feb 10th, making the changes retroactive to January 1, 2025. SO, for anyone that has already filed an Idaho tax return, you will want to take a look at make sure you amend your tax return if necessary in order to capture additional tax benefits to you. We've worked with our clients on making that decision to file early or wait for revised tax forms to be released, in order to prevent processing delays for them on additional refunds due to them.

Quick reminder to employers… there are lots of scammers taking advantage of employers and saying they can get you the Employee Retention Credit for a cost of some percentage of your credit you receive. However the IRS is warning people to be cautious of claims that seem too good to be true. As the taxpayer, YOU are left on the hook for any credit received if improperly claimed. We received yet another mailing for a client today with promises of guaranteed money due to them. There are specific requirements that must be met and you can verify if you meet the requirements by reading more on this credit at:

Also remember that if you received an ERTC payment, prior year returns may need to be amended to correct overstatement of wages now reflected, due to having received the credit. As always, contact your CPA for more information.

And the 2021 Tax filing season officially ends... time to start thinking of wrapping up your 2022 tax year and get your documents in order for a timely filing beginning in January. YDA is currently taking on new tax clients, however we expect we will be limiting that sooner than normal at some point early in the new year. It’s not too early to call to get on our list now.
