Virginia employers: monthly withholding returns (Form VA-5) for September are due Monday, October 26. October 25 falls on a Sunday, so the deadline moves to the next business day. Quarterly filers' July–September VA-5 and semi-weekly filers' third-quarter VA-16 reconciliation are due Monday, November 2, since October 31 falls on a Saturday. Virginia businesses: retail sales and use tax returns are due Tuesday, October 20. Monthly filers report September, and quarterly filers report July through September. A return is required even if you had no sales, and returns must be filed and paid electronically through Online Services, eForms, or Web Upload. Late filing carries a penalty of 6% per month, up to 30%, with a $10 minimum even when no tax is owed. Untaxed business purchases? Report consumer's use tax on the same return.
