Ivey delays state income tax deadline to July 15 The IRS moved the deadline for filing federal income tax returns to July 15.

This morning, the government announced that the Federal Tax filing date has been moved from April 15 to July 15. Alabama is expected to follow suit.

Note - as of this time, tax filing is still set for April 15.

However, you will have more time to pay, as announced today... "the government is deferring $300 billion in IRS payments by 90 days, penalty-free." If you owe a payment to the IRS, you can defer up to $1 million as an individual. Businesses can defer up to $10 million in payments.

But for those feeling the crunch of work and school closures and expecting a refund, filing prior to the deadline is a good call.
