Long-term care is one of those conversations many people plan to have "someday."
But life doesn't always wait for someday.

A health event can change everything in an instant, leaving families to make important decisions during an already emotional time.

That's why I believe planning ahead is one of the kindest things you can do for yourself and the people you love. It's not about expecting the worst. It's about protecting your choices, preserving your independence, and giving your family greater clarity and peace of mind if life takes an unexpected turn.

If you've been meaning to learn more about your options, I'd be happy to have a no-pressure conversation. Sometimes the hardest part is simply taking the first step.

Most people don’t realize that money in an IRA or other retirement account may be able to do more than fund retirement. It may also help fund a hybrid long-term care insurance policy.

That’s exactly what I’ll be talking about in my next free webinar on October 19 at Noon Eastern.

We’ll look at how these strategies work, who they may make sense for, and some interesting options for inherited IRAs that you may not know exist.
This is one of those areas of long-term care insurance that I wish more people knew about.

Join me on Zoom and let’s talk about it. Scan the QR code or click the link to register.

Long-term care planning is about much more than whether you have enough money to pay for care. It’s about where that money will come from, what using it could mean for the rest of your financial plan, and how the need for care could affect the people you love.

Holly Larson and I talked about my own family’s experience, why today’s long-term care insurance may look very different from what you remember, and some of the options people may not even know exist.

If long-term care is a piece of your financial plan you haven’t really explored yet, I hope you’ll read this. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/where-care-risk-sit-holly-larson-vhtge/

Long-term care planning often gets put off - not because people don’t think it matters, but because they simply aren’t sure where to start.

When should I begin planning? What does coverage look like today? What might it cost? Is it even right for me?

Here’s the good news: you don’t need to have those answers before we talk.
That’s what the conversation is for. My role is to help you understand your options, what may fit your situation, and what may not.

A good plan doesn’t start with having all the answers. It starts with asking the right questions.

If long-term care planning has been on your mind, let’s start there.

If you missed our Never Will I Ever webinar—or want to revisit the conversation—the replay is now available!

We talked about the realities of caregiving, planning ahead, and the experiences so many of us in the Panini Generation are navigating as we care for the people we love while managing our own lives, too.

And the conversation doesn’t have to end with the webinar.

And you know I love talking about long-term care insurance. I don’t charge for consultations, so if you’re curious, have questions, or simply want to understand your options, I’d love to talk with you.

It’s comforting to think, “If one of us needs care, the other will take care of them.”

But a spouse shouldn’t have to be the entire long-term care plan.

Caregiving can be physically, emotionally, and financially demanding. The reality is that the person you’re counting on to provide care may experience health changes of their own.

Planning ahead can give both spouses something important: options.
- Resources to bring in help.
- More flexibility in where and how care is provided.
- Less pressure on one person to carry the responsibility alone.

Taking care of each other can still be the plan. It just doesn’t have to be the only plan.

If you’ve been relying on “we’ll take care of each other,” let’s talk about putting some support behind that promise.

I’m so grateful to Holly Larson for sharing my story and starting an important conversation about where the risk of long-term care actually sits.

My family’s experience taught me that being able to pay for care isn’t necessarily the same as having a plan for it.

That lesson is a big part of why I do what I do today.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read the full article.

Why paying for care is only part of the plan In Suzanne Scheer, J.D.

Long-term care insurance comes with a lot of jargon - but what does it actually mean for you?

Take the elimination period. Knowing that it’s typically 90 days is only part of the story. How those days are counted can vary by policy.

In this video, I break down what you need to know and why the details matter.
