Meet the Founder

Hey, I’m Scott Goffin, founder of JAMS Financial.

As a U.S. Air Force veteran, I built this business on two founding principles. On the Air Force Core Values I was trained on, Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do. The second is our name. JAMS means a lot to me because it is the initials of our family. That is my I am making it my mission to help people like you, trying to do better in life. Either for yourself, to have a better financial future, your family or budgeting for your kids to go to college? Or you might be planning on retirement in the next few years.

We are all on our own walk of life, and each persons goals are different. That’s my goal, to help each and every person. Everyone that comes to our firm, will be treated life family. From individuals, all the way through the business you own.

Thank you for supporting a veteran-owned small business!

💡 Saturday Financial Tip

Pay Yourself First.

One of the easiest ways to build wealth is to treat your savings like a monthly bill.

Instead of waiting to see what’s left over at the end of the month, set up an automatic transfer to your savings or retirement account each payday.

Even $25 or $50 per paycheck can add up over time through consistency and compound growth.

Remember, building financial security isn’t about being perfect—it’s about creating habits you can stick with.

💰 Financial Friday

Financial success isn’t built overnight—it’s built one decision at a time.

Many people believe they need to make a big financial change to see results. In reality, it’s often the small, consistent habits that have the greatest impact over time.

Whether it’s:
✅ Setting aside money each payday
✅ Increasing your retirement contribution by 1%
✅ Paying a little extra toward debt
✅ Creating a monthly budget
✅ Reviewing your tax strategy before year-end

Each step brings you closer to your financial goals.

Remember, progress is more important than perfection. The best time to start building a stronger financial future is today.

💼 Tax Tip Thursday

Life changes can have a big impact on your taxes.

Many people don’t realize that major life events can change your tax situation long before it’s time to file your return.

Has Life Changed?
💍 Married
👶 Had a Baby
🏡 Bought a Home
💼 Changed Jobs
📈 Got a Raise
💔 Divorced
🗂️Starting a business or side hustle
🏡Buying a home
👴👵Retiring

For married couples, filing jointly combines both spouses’ income on one tax return. That can change your overall tax situation, withholding needs, eligibility for certain credits, and the amount you may owe or receive as a refund. Reviewing your tax strategy after a major life event can help you avoid surprises at tax time.

The best time to plan for taxes isn’t April—it’s throughout the year.

💬 Question: Have you experienced a life change in the past year that could affect your taxes?

📊 Small Business Wednesday

💡 Did you know?

Many small business owners focus on growing their business but don’t realize they may be overlooking legitimate tax deductions throughout the year.

Expenses like:
✅ Office supplies
✅ Business mileage
✅ Software subscriptions
✅ Marketing and advertising
✅ Continuing education
✅ Business insurance
✅ Professional memberships
✅ Home office expenses (if you qualify)

…can potentially reduce your taxable income when properly tracked and documented.

The biggest mistake I see? Waiting until tax season to organize receipts and expenses. Good bookkeeping and year-round tax planning can make tax time much less stressful and help ensure you’re claiming the deductions you’re entitled to.

📈 Small tip: Keep business and personal expenses separate and record transactions throughout the year—not just in April.

Question: What’s the biggest challenge you face when keeping track of your business expenses?

Personal: I never realized how many deductions were available to me until I started my streaming business! It opened my eyes to a whole new world.

💰 Tax Tip Tuesday

Did you know?

One of the easiest ways to avoid a surprise tax bill is to review your tax withholding before the end of the year—not just during tax season.

Life changes like getting married, having a child, starting a new job, or earning additional income can all affect how much tax should be withheld from your paycheck.

Taking a few minutes to review your withholding now can help you:
✅ Reduce the chance of owing taxes
✅ Avoid underpayment penalties
✅ Better match your tax withholding to your financial goals

A little planning today can help make tax season much less stressful.

Question: When was the last time you reviewed your W-4 withholding? 👇

💡 Money Myth Monday

❌ Myth: “Only wealthy people need a financial plan.”

✅ Fact: Financial planning isn’t just for the wealthy—it’s for anyone who wants to take control of their financial future. Whether your goal is paying off debt, building an emergency fund, saving for retirement, or buying your first home, having a plan can help you get there.

When I first started learning about personal finance, I didn’t fully understand the power of financial planning or the snowball effect it can create.

I like to compare it to going to the gym. You don’t see results after one workout, and it can be easy to get discouraged. But with consistency, those small efforts begin to add up.

The same is true with your finances. Saving a little each month or increasing your 401(k) contribution by just 1% may not seem like much today, but over time those small decisions can have a meaningful impact. Building wealth is often less about making one big move and more about making smart, consistent choices.
