I’ve had some pushback about choosing a faith-based name for my business, Have Faith Bookkeeping.
That doesn’t make me sad.
What makes me sad is that so many people have such a negative view of Christianity — and in many cases, that view came from the way they were treated by Christians.
Christianity is supposed to be rooted in love, grace, humility, compassion, forgiveness, and serving others. When people walk away feeling judged, rejected, shamed, or hurt instead, I think Christians should be willing to acknowledge that rather than immediately becoming defensive.
My business name reflects something that is important to me personally. It is not a statement about what my clients should believe, and I would never expect someone to share my faith in order to feel welcomed, respected, or valued.
Bottom line: if people have a negative view of Christianity because of the way Christians have treated them, the answer isn’t to argue with them about how they feel. Maybe Christians need to do a better job of representing what Christianity is supposed to be.
