Have we seen a fear like the ones we are seeing over AI and data centers before?

The answer is yes. Many times. When something is new, you have the fear of the unknown. During the bicycle boom in the 1890s, we had bicycle face. You read that right, bicycle face! Some physicians and newspapers warned that cycling could cause a strained, permanent facial expression. Guess what - bicycle face was never based on solid evidence. Shocker, right?

Technology will continue to advance. It’s up to you to decide if you will try to take advantage of it.

Stop chasing hacks. Most posts on any social media are meant to get clicks. They want to get paid and getting more clicks is how they get paid. So, when you see things like “never pay taxes by using a trust” or “the secrets of the rich”, they are meant to get you to click more than they are providing you with factual financial advice. Most of the “advice” they are giving is flat out wrong and/or illegal.

I have guidelines for myself when I purchase a vehicle. I do not look at what my monthly payment would be. This is a trap for you justifying spending more on a vehicle than you should. I figure out what amount I can pay off in about one year. Whatever that amount is, that’s what I’m spending. Then I start looking for the vehicle I want in that price range.

How do you do this? Let’s say you pay off your car that had a $500 per month payment. You drive that payment free car for the next four years. You do not spend that money, you save it. Saving $500 per month is $6000 per year. Do that for four years and you have $24,000 for a very nice down payment or paying cash for a vehicle. Now you’re the envy of all your friends who are slaves to their car payment!

On July 2, 1982, a truck driver from California flew 16,000 feet into the sky in a lawn chair. Larry Walters, 33, from San Pedro, had dreamed of flying his whole life. He bought 42 eight-foot helium weather balloons, tied them to a regular Sears lawn chair, strapped on a parachute, packed a BB gun to pop balloons to descend, a CB radio, sandwiches, and a six-pack of b**r.
He expected to float a few hundred feet above his backyard. He cut the rope and shot up like a rocket — to 16,000 feet. He drifted directly into the main approach path for LAX. Two airline pilots radioed the tower: they had just passed a man in a lawn chair holding a gun at 16,000 feet. For 45 minutes, he floated over Los Angeles, freezing cold, too scared to shoot balloons because he might fall. Finally, he started popping balloons one by one and slowly descended.
He landed tangled in power lines in Long Beach, California, causing a blackout. When police arrested him, they asked why he did it. He said, "A man can't just sit around." The FAA fined him $4,000. He became a national folk hero — Lawnchair Larry — and inspired the movie Up.

The point is you can figure out how to do something if you put your mind to it. Once you decide to get serious about getting out of debt or investing for your future, you’ll figure out how to. I can help!

Should you pay off your home or keep your mortgage for a tax deduction? First, let’s understand what a tax deduction is. It reduces your income before calculating taxes. We will use simple interest for this example. If you have a $200k loan at 5%, you will pay $10k in interest to the bank that you can deduct on your taxes. Let’s say you didn’t have to pay the mortgage and kept $10k in your pocket. $10k in the 22% tax bracket equals $2200 taxes paid. So, you either send $10k in interest to the bank for a tax deduction or send $2200 to the government for taxes because you no longer have the deduction.

Bottom line, you keep more money in your pocket by not having a mortgage. We didn’t even get into the principle part of the payment. To take a deduction, you have to itemize on your taxes. Most people take the standard deduction.

Think of having an emergency fund like having a spare tire. If you have one and get a flat, you can change it and keep driving. If not, you're stuck and the situation is worse.

Do you look at what’s in front of you or the big picture when it comes to financial decisions. Buying a $10 subscription doesn’t seem like a big deal. Then you look at your bank statement and see that you have 15 other $10 subscriptions costing you $150 a month and you’re like what am I doing! Realize the waste.

Payments over Price

Asking how much something costs vs. can I afford these payments is an important shift in your mindset. When a $30,000 car suddenly becomes $530 a month, you start to talk yourself into spending more than you should. This is because the pain is arriving in small doses, i.e., the monthly payments.
