Will you get a bigger tax refund this year?

Possibly. According to various sources, it looks like average refunds this year could land anywhere from $300 to $1,000 higher than in previous years, thanks to last year's One Big Beautiful Bill. This, of course, depends on your 2025 withholding.

Not everyone will get refunds, but you won't know where your tax burden (or refund) sits until you file.

If you adopted a child last year, congratulations. Thatโ€™s a big moment for you and your family. And it came with some very real costs.

The good news is that the tax code does give you a few ways to recover some of what you spent.

For 2025, the Adoption Tax Credit is worth up to $17,280 per child, with up to $5,000 refundable.

If your employer provided Adoption Assistance, you may also be able to receive up to $17,280 tax-free.

You can use both for the same adoption, just not for the same expenses.

If the adoption involved a child with special needs, you qualify for the full credit regardless of actual costs.
