Bookkeeping should be easy. And in many ways, bookkeeping is easy when you stay on top of it.

The hardest part isn’t getting the books complete; it’s finding the time to get the books complete. And the time to initially learn all those skills. And of course, the further your bookkeeping requirements extend, the more you need to keep your skills up to date (e.g., forecasting, budgeting, what-if analysis).

Business owners have to wear many hats. But to grow past a certain point, one of the best moves is knowing which hats to keep and which ones to hand off.

Hi all! Happy vaalentines! I offer bookkeeping, cleanups, and accounting support for businesses and nonprofits.

I have experience in public accounting as an auditor, and now I work directly with local business owners to get their books organized and back on track.

My goal is to get your books to a healthy place and keep them there, using an audit informed approach so there are fewer surprises at year end. Because the only thing that should be surprising this Valentine’s Day is dinner, not your numbers.

I’m happy to answer any questions and I’m open to networking.

Driving through the Austin freeze a couple weeks ago was surprisingly a lot of fun. There were no visible lanes, barely any traffic, and I had cumbia playing in the background. For a moment it felt like a completely different city. It’s funny how stepping outside your comfort zone can feel uncomfortable at first, and then unexpectedly energizing once you adjust.
Walking in it was a different story. I had no gloves and I am not used to sheets of ice, so what was supposed to be a normal walk quickly turned into a short, freezing one. That freeze was a good reminder that rare events have a way of testing how prepared you really are.
It made me think about preparation in general. You cannot plan for everything. But if you have thought through realistic worst case scenarios and taken reasonable precautions, you can move forward with confidence. Not because nothing could go wrong, but because you have done what you can to reduce the risk. That kind of clarity replaces fear with focus.

This winter feels different: it’s my first in 5 years outside of audit and tax busy season, and while I’m grateful for what I learned, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I don’t miss those days: the long hours, the short weekends (if any), the deadlines, and the audit surprises.

But I do miss the small things: the early-morning coffee rituals at the office, dark empty parking lots, the spontaneous office laughter, and going through multiple busy seasons with the same coworkers.

There’s something about suffering together and showing up early that creates a real bond. When you’re walking in half-awake with a coffee in hand, season after season, you learn who people really are under pressure.

I have a lot of respect for the auditors in the middle of it right now.
