Tax season brings out more than refunds⦠it also brings out scammers pretending to be the IRS.
Here's some tips to help you š
ā The IRS will NOT:
⢠Text you
⢠Email you
⢠DM you on social media
⢠Demand immediate payment
⢠Ask for gift cards, Venmo, Zelle, or crypto
⢠Threaten arrest or deportation
ā
The real IRS:
⢠Contacts you by official mail
⢠Gives you time to respond
⢠Explains the issue
⢠Never pressures you to act āright nowā
If something feels off, 1st - pause, 2nd - donāt click links, 3rd - donāt pay immediately.
Go straight to IRS.gov or call using a number you look up yourself. Log in or investigate from there.
At Rush CPA, weāre always happy to take a quick look and help you verify if you are in question. Better safe than sorry!
