You read that right. This one's worth 60 seconds. ⏱️

Most business owners track one number: revenue. But revenue only tells you how much you sold, not how healthy your business is.

Here are 4 numbers that tell 4 very different stories:

1️⃣ Revenue: how much you sold
→ It shows activity, not results.

2️⃣ Gross margin: how much you keep after the direct cost of delivering
→ It shows whether each sale is worth making.

3️⃣ Net profit: what's left after every expense
→ It shows whether the business model works.

4️⃣ Cash flow: what actually moves in and out of your bank account
→ It shows whether you can pay your team, your bills, and yourself.

A business can grow revenue and still lose money. It can be profitable on paper and still run short of cash. That's why looking at just one number can be dangerous.

The fix: review all four together every month. When they tell the same story, you're healthy. When they don't, that's where your attention needs to go.

You're not underpriced. You're under-counted.

Packaging, freight, scrap, machine time, QC, and overhead all belong in your unit cost. Leave them out, and every sale quietly shrinks your margin.

Know your true unit cost before you price, scale, or discount.

Materials + labor isn't your unit cost. It's the part you remembered. 💀

The rest is packaging, freight, scrap, machine time, QC, and overhead, and it's quietly eating your margin on every order.

Know your true unit cost before you price, scale, or discount.

Packaging. Freight. Scrap. Machine time. QC. Overhead.

Price without them, and every sale loses you money.

You, slowly opening the bank app after "the best sales month ever."

We've all been there. Revenue looked great, but you're not sure the cash followed.

If checking your numbers feels like approaching something that might bite, it's usually not the numbers. It's not knowing what's coming.

Know your cash before you check it. Let's talk 👉 https://www.foundersaccounting.com/contact/

Your customers see a growing company. You see a bank balance you check before approving every expense.

Your best sales month can still feel like your tightest. Not because you're not making money, but because cash is leaving before other cash arrives.

Growth shouldn't leave you guessing what the bank account will look like next week.

Know what's coming. Plan for it. Grow with clarity.

Growth doesn't kill companies. Running out of cash while growing does. 💀

You pay on Day 1. Your customer pays on Day 60. Do the math.

Revenue up 35%. Marketing spend up 70%. That's not growth. That's a very expensive receipt. 🧾

Before you celebrate, ask: what did it cost, and is it sustainable?
