What is the difference between IRA and Roth-IRA?
Let me summarize this for you below:
IRA and Roth IRA are both popular retirement savings vehicles, but they have key differences in terms of taxation and eligibility requirements.
► IRA, or Individual Retirement Account, allows individuals to save for retirement with pre-tax dollars. Contributions are typically tax-deductible, and the investments grow tax-deferred until withdrawal in retirement, at which point they are taxed as ordinary income. There are also strict rules for early withdrawals and required minimum distributions (RMDs) after a certain age.
►On the other hand, Roth IRA contributions are made with after-tax dollars, meaning they are not tax-deductible. However, the investments grow tax-free, and qualified withdrawals in retirement are also tax-free.
This means that the contributions and earnings can be withdrawn without incurring any additional taxes, as long as certain conditions are met.
Additionally, Roth IRAs do not have RMDs during the owner's lifetime, making them a flexible option for retirement planning.
In summary, the main differences between IRA and Roth IRA are the tax treatment of contributions and withdrawals, as well as the rules regarding early withdrawals and required distributions.
The choice between the two will depend on an individual's specific financial situation and retirement goals.
