Myth: Medicare will pay for my long-term care expenses

Reality check:

Programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and veteran’s benefits can help with some costs, but they have strict requirements to qualify for and limit the type and duration of services they will cover. Planning with alternative protection can provide control of care options.

If you have questions or want to learn about this more in-depth, I'm always available to discuss.

Extended care planning works to help maintain your freedom and power to choose.

If a care event were to happen to any of us, we'd all like the power to make decisions on how and where the care is administered. But if your plan is to self-fund or rely on some form of government assistance, there's a chance that some of those choices may be limited.

Long-term care protection has the chance to:
• Help you maintain your independence
• Provide peace of mind to yourself and family members
• Protect your retirement income
• Let you decide when and how to receive care

If you haven't had this conversation yet, I'd be more than happy to have it with you. Let's walk through what's available to fit your needs and protect the lifestyle you want in retirement.

Having the money isn't the same as having a plan.

Some people believe that they will simply self-fund a long-term care event if it ever occurred. For these people that very well could be a possibility, but the funding is only one small part of a plan.

There are multiple other considerations that should be addressed:
• Who will provide care?
• Where do you want to receive care?
• Which assets are you planning to use?
• What effect would this have on your retirement lifestyle?
This conversation isn't about whether you can afford care. It's about making sure that if it happens, everything has been prepared for. Let's explore what a more complete long-term care plan could look like for you.

You can't predict the future, but you can prepare for it.

No one knows exactly what the future holds, which is why planning matters. While retirement strategies can focus on growth and preserving assets, it's also important to focus on protecting the strategy itself while maintaining the lifestyle you've worked to build.

Extended care planning isn't about expecting something bad to happen, it's about being prepared if something does. It can help to protect your retirement lifestyle, help you maintain independence, and protect the people you care about.

If you haven't explored this area of your retirement plan yet, let's start the conversation. I'd love to show you how this fits in to the retirement plan you've worked hard to create today. Let's make sure it's protected.

Future you deserves more than limited options.

While there are many retirement planning strategies that are important, one that often gets overlooked is extended care planning. Talking about it earlier isn't about solving a problem today, but it's about giving yourself more time, more options, and more control over future decisions.

By being proactive, you could create a more comprehensive plan about how you would want to receive care if it's ever needed. Planning ahead may also give you access to a wider range of strategies and opportunities.

If you haven't had this conversation yet, I'd be happy to have it with you. This isn't about preparing for the worst. It's about being informed, creating a plan on your terms, and helping to protect everything you've worked to build in retirement.

The cost of caregiving isn't always on the bill.

When a loved one experiences a care event, the impact it can have can reach far beyond medical expenses. Family members who step in to provide care may reduce work hours, miss time with their own family, or end up taking on some of the financial burden themselves.

Long-term care planning is more than figuring out what will pay for care. It's about providing a plan that can help reduce the financial and emotional strain on everyone in the family.

Have you seen caregiving impact someone in your life? Let's talk about strategies than can help families prepare before an event like this occurs.

Myth: “I can’t afford long-term care protection.”

Good news:
All bills require us to have an income, and long-term care protection can provide the income needed to cover those expenses. Many assume it’s too expensive, but it’s likely more affordable than you think — and usually less expensive than the cost of going without.
