A business owner can show a profit on paper and still wonder why there isn’t much money in the bank.
Maybe cash is going toward debt. Maybe customers haven’t paid yet. Maybe inventory is absorbing it.
Maybe owner withdrawals or expenses are higher than expected.
So when someone tells me, “My business was profitable - where did the money go?”
I don’t just look at the profit number. I follow the money.
Knowing your profit is useful. Understanding what happened to your cash is what helps you make the next decision.

We talk a lot about growing a business.

More clients. More revenue. More employees. Bigger goals.

But there’s a question I think business owners should ask more often:

Is my business growing in a way that is actually making my life better?

I’ve seen businesses increase revenue while the owner becomes more stressed, works more hours, takes on more debt, or still doesn’t feel comfortable paying themselves.

At some point, growth has to mean more than a bigger number at the top of the P&L.

It should create options, stability and the ability to make decisions from clarity instead of fear.

Because the goal isn’t just to build a bigger business.
Your business should be building the life you want.

I don’t want business owners to just receive financial reports.

I want them to understand what those numbers are telling them.

Because I’ve seen business owners receive a P&L every month and still wonder:

Am I actually making money?

Can I afford to hire?

Why is revenue growing but cash still feels tight?

What should I be doing differently?

Having the reports isn’t the same as having clarity.

Your numbers shouldn’t just tell you what happened.

They should help you decide what happens next.

That’s the kind of accounting and advisory work I want Magista to be known for.

One of the most common things I hear from business owners is:
“I’m making money… so why doesn’t it feel like I am?”
That question usually isn’t answered by looking at revenue alone.
You have to follow the story behind the numbers: what came in, what went out, what the business actually
kept, and where cash is getting tied up.
Sometimes the problem isn’t that the business needs more sales. It needs more clarity.
Your books are the beginning of the conversation - not the end.

Let’s talk tax implications!

Whether you're upgrading equipment, hiring help, or expanding your services, reinvesting in your business can be a smart move but it’s important to understand how those investments impact your taxes.

Some purchases may qualify as deductible business expenses, reducing your taxable income in the same year.

Investments in long-term assets like equipment or property are generally not fully deductible in the year they're purchased.

Instead, you may be able to deduct them over time through depreciation, which spreads the tax benefit across several years.

Wages and benefits are deductible, but make sure workers are properly classified and payroll taxes are handled correctly.

Even marketing, software, and professional services can offer tax benefits when documented properly.

Before you spend, know what qualifies, what doesn’t, and how to structure it in a way that benefits your bottom line.

Thinking about your next investment? Reach out we’re here to help you plan smart and stay compliant.
