Rough day for tech and momentum funds! Friday they were crushing it 🤷🏼‍♂️

This is why we don’t watch. It’s annoying.

I spent the last 10 years completely ignoring the market. Did not have an app on my phone, didn’t pay attention at all.

I invested every 2 weeks regardless, and only checked my accounts quarterly.

Since starting this page I’ve been watching the market a lot. I find it to be more frustrating than fun. It’s a love hate relationship for sure.

I have an aggressive allocation and I can stomach the swings. I’m more likely to get struck by lightning than panic sell. But I can absolutely see how anyone who is uneasy about investing could throw in the towel when watching every day.

If you’re investing long term, I suggest automating your investments and deleting the app. Leave emotion out of the equation, let time do its thing, and go live your life!

Listen to Warren!

Credit card debt destroys your finances. It’s the worst of the worst.

Either pay the balance in full EVERY month, or cut up your cards.

My wife and I put 4 figures on credit cards monthly just for the dividend (bills, groceries, gas etc), then pay it in full.

I’m 43 and have never paid a cent in credit card interest.

Uninformed investors: “YOU CAN’T USE 10% FOR FIGURING LONG TERM RETURNS!! It isn’t realistic!”

Me: “Have you heard of the S&P500?”

Since 1993, SPY - State Street’s S&P500 Index Fund has returned well over 10%

Most peoples’ financial problems don’t stem from one purchase, it’s all the little leaks that add up over time.

If your mindset is “Whatever, it’s only $20.”

That’s an excellent mindset for staying broke.

Details:

I opened this account August 3rd. I have contributed to it 3 times. The market has went down since two of the contributions.

As you can see, the total market fund SPTM is down slightly. No biggie, the market has been fairly flat the last month after a tremendous run this spring.

SPTM will mirror the market almost exactly.

Look at SPMO (momentum) and XLK (tech). They move A LOT more than the market does. And just because they’re up now that doesn’t mean they’ll stay that way.

When the market does crash (it’s going to at some point - there are multiple indicators of this) here is the important part for you young investors.

When dollar cost averaging, being young means a crash is GOOD. You get to buy stocks on sale at that point and reap the benefit when the market recovers. Historically it has always recovered.

And here is why I am not shy about aggressive funds for young people and also myself.

Aggressive funds drop more than the market. That means a cheaper sale when you dollar cost average and buy every two weeks.

Aggressive funds also mean higher highs. Both equate to a higher balance long term.

If you can stomach it, ride the roller coaster. Keep in mind, there is a difference between aggressive and wreckless.

As always this is not investment advise it is for educational purposes only. Do your own research, and never invest in something you do not understand.

I’m getting super grossed out by ChatGPT captioned content. It’s everywhere.

I refuse to do that.

When I started this page I did. And it is very obvious that I use a generator for images… (I have to because I’m an electrician not a graphic designer 🤷🏼‍♂️)

But I promise you one thing. When you see my posts and captions, I wrote it… not AI.

That’s why you might see occasional spelling errors, improper grammar and run on sentences. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Long hyphens and bulleted list? That’s not a person. That’s AI.

I figure most of you are like me. When you make a phone call you prefer to talk to a person vs a machine.

That’s why I run this page this way. Human interaction creates a better connection even when it’s less than perfect.

Sometimes spending money MAKES you money. The company I work for paid a professional organizer to go through our shop.

Every tool in the shop is labeled and has a home.

Every worker has magnets with their name on them.

You need a tool, you take it and put your name in its place. Now nobody has to wonder which job or whose truck that tool is on.

No wasted time searching for a tool that isn’t there. No making numerous phone calls to employees while conducting a massive search operation.

I LOVE IT. And it absolutely plays a part in why I’ve worked here for nearly ten years.

Figured I’d share for those of you who run a business or work for an unorganized company!
