A conversation I have often with pre-retirees:

"I'll probably start Social Security as soon as I can."

My next question is: Why?

Most people have never run the numbers, assuming earlier is the best option.

Sometimes it is.

Sometimes waiting can significantly increase guaranteed lifetime income.

The key is understanding how Social Security fits into your overall retirement strategy, not making the decision in isolation.

If you're within 5 years of retirement, this is a conversation worth having now, not later.

Many people I meet are tired of how fast this world's changing, and the uncertainty.

Real Scenario: Couple in their late 50s, 2 children (recent grads), and they know they are on track with retirement savings.

They have seen so much change in their lifetime, but this is overwhelming.

- Will AI replace my kids careers?
- Can we afford to relocate?
