Interesting and fun start to the day, giving a talk via Skype from my balcony in Freetown about my NGO finance consultancy work to a class of students at the Colegio Atalya near Estepona. They are studying for International Baccalaureate and are wanting to hear from people who work in development and charity sector. I think they enjoyed it!

David Smeath Finance Consultancy & Accounting for NGOs (aka Dave) is off to live and work in...Sierra Leone! 6 month contract working for a fantastic organisation called Street Child. BOOM!
Heading home after a successful 4 weeks of consultancy for NGOs in Jamaica and Suriname. These trips are pretty intense, as I have to figure out how to solve the problems pretty darned quickly and then implement the changes and train the local staff.
Then, although not obligatory, I spend my free time exploring these wonderful exotic places in this endlessly fascinating world!

Into the final straight in my 3 weeks in Jamaica working for Famplan on behalf of their core donor International Planned Parenthood Federation.
It’s been a great experience, though quite challenging from a work point of view. However, we are well on the way to compiling 4 months worth of retrospective accounts which we will be able to report against Budget for the 2 different clinics, as well as implementing more effective processes for recording sales and controls to collect cash going forward.
And if I need a break from work, and something to nibble on, the fruit stall outside is there for some delicious fresh pineapple!

Heading back across the pond after 4 weeks of conducting due diligence on 5 Colombian NGOs who are prospective partners for Forest Peoples Programme. From big cities to rural backwaters, mountains to jungle to coast by plane, bus, boat and even riding pillion on a motorcycle! I did enjoy a nice weekend on the beach too 🏖

My next overseas consulting assignment is in place. I will be travelling to Colombia for 5 weeks in mid March, working for Forest Peoples Programme. I will be performing an assessment of financial processes and controls of 5 partner organisations around Colombia. Exciting times! 🇨🇴
