I've been speaking to a lot of fellow FCs recently and this term seems to come up a lot - "I CAN'T". ๐
๐ป
I truly respect knowing our boundaries, especially when it is a genuine limitation - you truly CAN'T ask a fish to climb a tree. However, most of the time, these "I CAN'Ts" come from a place mostly of self-doubt, fear, and worries. ๐
And I've been there. There were so many times that I really believed that I couldn't do something. But really, we owe it to us to turn it around. โ๐ผ
Here's how to turn your "I CAN'Ts" into fuel. โฝ
Because while you can't do something YET, doesn't mean you are not going to. ๐

This video by helped me to document my thoughts behind the leap of faith from PO to FC. ๐ฎ๐ปโก๏ธ๐๐ป
I won't go into another cheong hei post but at the heart of it all, I'm grateful. Grateful for the rough start in life that built that mettle in me to fight for my dreams - then, to serve as a Police Officer, and now to serve as a Financial Consultant. Grateful for the people in my life - many are here on IG/FB, who have given me your love, support, trust, and friendship beyond that of a working relationship. ๐ฅฐ
It's a tough journey but it's worth every step of the way. And when the going gets tough, just level up, see the light, and get going. ๐ด๐ผ
What is the best space to grow in? ๐ฑ
When I was in secondary school, I had no ideal physical space to study in and would find my ideal spaces - at fast food joints ๐, at my best friend's home ๐ etc. I realised that an ideal space really helps me to absorb and "grow" better.
However, over the years, I realised that it may be difficult to influence external spaces ๐ฉ - I was no longer a student and didn't have the luxury of time to travel to ideal physical spaces as and when I wanted to.
So when I heard a TED Talk on finding the BEST INTERNAL SPACE to grow in, I knew that I had to listen in. ๐
This was a great reminder for me that the "space" that we seek is sometimes within us. ๐ก I hope that it's a good reminder for you too! ๐ซ
๐คInstead of trying to cleverly respond to objections/rejections, how about acknowledging them first? โ
โ
๐๐ผ Over the years, I've realised that we can all learn to truly listen, understand and acknowledge before responding.โ
โ
๐ค We all get hurt sometimes, but sometimes that hurt teaches us a lot too. โ
โ
๐จ I hope that this video helps you to get your post-CNY engine starting. โ
โ
๐ช๐ผ Go out there, acknowledge more rejections/objections, grow from it, handle them appropriately and most importantly, get more people insured. โ
Do what we do with passion and love. โค๏ธ โ
โ
โน๏ธ We don't talk about our emotions much in Asia. When we do, they sometimes get shoved away or trivialised (even as children) - over time, we do really bad at embracing our emotions. โ
โ
๐ค Those who know me know that I have a hard time addressing my emotions. I tend to brush them aside and just focus on what needs to be done. That's my coping mechanism and I'm learning to embrace my emotions better. โ
โ
Recently, I heard a TED Talk by psychologist (follow her IG for some really awesome self-care content, or read her book!) who spoke about the power of embracing emotions - yes, even "negative" emotions. Watch this video to see how embracing and correctly labelling your emotions can help us grow. ๐ฑ โ
โ
To help the people around us fully embrace their emotions, we have to be aware of our emotions, toxic positivity and toxic masculinity as well. Every person has the right to feel and embrace their emotions - let's help the people around us grow through what we feel. I really think the world can be a better place if we all learn how to embrace our emotions and talk about them to one another. ๐ปโ

๐ Have you ever been told that you're not cut out for it?
When I first expressed my interest to join the insurance profession, my wife objected. ๐
๐ป She felt that I didn't have the skills to be a salesperson and that I was not cut out for the job.
And she was right - I'm not cut out to be a salesperson BUT I have the skills and the right attitude to be a good Financial Consultant. ๐ฏ I explained to her that I saw this role as an advisory and consulting role (not sales) and that I had the analytical and problem-solving skills for the job. I also told her that I saw purpose in helping people preventively through proper Financial Planning. After hearing me out, my wife gave me her support and the rest is history.
There were family and friends who also advised me against joining this industry. Some thought that I was silly to give up my stable income for this. I heard them out, took their perspectives with an open mind, and decided to join the profession anyway. I shared with them my views, my passion and my purpose and they eventually felt that I joined the right profession. ๐
You see, noone knows you more than you. Most feedback come from a place of good intentions and you can always receive them with an open mind. ๐ However, if you envision a different possibility, go ahead and try anyway. After all, you know you best. ๐ฅฐ
I hope this video brings you some love, motivation and light this 2021! โ๏ธ
Are you RICH and HAPPY? ๐โ
โ
I filmed this in March this year before Circuit Breaker hit. And things got kind of gloomy after that and I wasn't sure if it would be right to post this video. โ
โ
But I am now going through a boot camp with 4 young minds, and hanging out with these little folks have reminded me that it doesn't take much to be RICH and HAPPY. ๐คฉโ
โ
We each have our own definitions of what it means to be rich and happy - and that's ok. But if your definitions are making you constantly unhappy, then perhaps it's time to relook at them and start enabling yourself to be happier. ๐ช๐ผโ
โ
This also serves as a timely reminder for me this season, to value the richness of relationships over any material goods, and to soak in the simple happiness of moments we create with loved ones. ๐ฅฐโ
โ
p.s. This was mum's first time filming. So cute hor? :pโ
โ
๐ค What motivates you? โ
โ
Simon Sinek famously said, "People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it. And what you do simply proves what you believe." ๐ฏโ
โ
Your motivations define your values, your purpose, your drive and your actions. So take some time to dig deep and find out what motivates you. ๐ช๐ผโ
โ
If you're game, leave your motivations in the comments below to inspire fellow FCs! โค๏ธโ

๐ฉ Facing a slump at work or in life? โ
โ
๐๐ผ It's really normal to have down moments in our profession (or in any profession) and here's how I manage those moments. โ
โ
Don't underestimate the power of small but consistent efforts - they accumulate and can result in big changes. ๐ช๐ผโ
โ
All the best for your runs till the end of the year and feel free to DM me if you need a boost of positivity! ๐ฏโ

"Will I regret not spending enough time with my grandparents?" ๐คโ
โ
I knew I would. So from last year, I did things I never did before (yes, I'm guilty of being a very passive granddaughter). ๐โ
โ
๐ก I proactively visited my grandparents more, especially my Ah Ta and Ah Ma (paternal grandparents). โ
โ
โ๏ธ I convinced my grandparents to get their passports done up (boo, COVID19). โ
โ
๐ต๐ป๐ด๐ป I popped by my grandparents' residence or work place every now and then. โ
โ
๐ฃ๏ธ I spoke to them a lot more. โ
โ
And I learnt so much from them - from their worries about their children and grandchildren, from their fears, from their experiences of successes and failures, from their always learning and always giving attitude, and simply from their life stories. โ
โ
I did a short recording of Ah Ta and Ah Ma last year, to remember the lessons that they wanted to share with the younger generation. This year, things have changed quite a bit for them. The lessons in here are gold for me, and I want to share this with you guys. โฅ๏ธโ
โ
I hope you learn from their experiences too and that this video was insightful for you. ๐ฏโ
โ
Go back, take the initiative, and spend quality time with your parents and grandparents. ๐ซโ

โ๐ผ STOP USING TECHNICAL JARGONS. โ
โ
No, it doesn't make you appear more knowledgeable. In fact, when I was a client, listening to people speak technical made me feel confused and frustrated. ๐คฏ๐๐ โ
โ
Our job is to break the technical down to layman terms so that we can pass the knowledge and information down to our clients for them to make better decisions! ๐ฏโ
โ
So go out there to educate, not complicate, and help our clients make good and informed decisions! ๐ช๐ผโ
โ
๐
๐ปโโ๏ธ Don't feel obliged to remain in an uncomfortable situation - and it doesn't matter if this is offline or online. โ
โ
In the Financial Consulting profession, it is important to be present on social media - to share your values and work with the world so that they can assess if you are the right FC to work with. We are keen to work with more people but don't let that keep you from being safe on social media. To take care of your client's interests, you have to learn to protect your rights too. ๐ฏ๐ซโ
โ
And with everything, don't feel obliged to carry on with an uncomfortable or unhealthy relationship - even if it is saying "no" to a potential client. โ๐ฝโ
โ
Keep yourself (and your data) safe ๐ฆบ and speak up if you are being harassed in any way! ๐ฃ๏ธ โ
