I’m a party gal 🍸 and I’m not afraid to say it!

I’m not everyone’s cup of tea and that’s totally fine. I am loud, I make jokes, I dance and let my hair down. I also am good with numbers, work hard, care for my friends and hustle.

Moving to Portugal and back to Europe away from all the rules of Australia has been nothing short of amazing!

Last Friday it was gals night out and the club let me DJ and dance for hours. Oh what a night!

I believe there’s nothing wrong with work hard, play hard ✌️ and so my husband and I enjoy a night out with our friends some weekends.

Last Thursday I went to the beach. It’s sounds so simple but why don’t we take time in our “work week” to recharge?

We feel guilty? Something always comes up that can’t wait? We don’t plan to take a break?

Moving to Portugal a year ago made me rethink everything. The way I go about my day, what I say yes too and where I go. Luckily this week some friends convinced me to join them - I’m glad I did!

Floating in the cold water and relaxing in the sun changed my whole week!

A few weeks ago the premise I operate my business Elo House (co-work & events) from was flooded.

I came in after a week away in the south of Portugal to water everywhere. Turns out there was a leak above and water was pouring through a gap in the walls and came up under the floor.

After several holes in the walls, drying carpets and using the fan - the walls were patched up and resprayed.

Running a small business, is a bumpy road, especially in a foreign country where paperwork is meaningless and relationships are everything!

And you thought doing your bank rec in Xero was bad!

Here is me sorting my paper receipts into piles and putting them in an envelope for collection by my accountant.

Moving to Portugal and opening a business has set me back 20 years. The system (mandatory Gov one in PT) won’t OCR read most files so to save time I just keep all my paper receipts and a driver collects them.

I’m Maltese 🇲🇹

My dad was born in Malta and emigrated to Australia when he was five years old. I grew up in Australia with very little connection to that side of my heritage.

I saw my Maltese family from time to time but I was always the one who couldn’t speak the language. I didn’t know many of the traditions or the food but I loved hearing the stories and being around the unmistakable Maltese energy. We are innovators and known to make something out of nothing, are resilient but with very little patience!

As I got older, I became fascinated by different cultures and travelling with curiosity and respect. Naturally, that curiosity turned towards my own heritage too.

This week, my dad and I came to Malta together for the first time.

It’s been so much fun seeing the island through his eyes, hearing stories from his childhood and family and learning about the place that shaped
his life.

I know there are so many people who grew up feeling disconnected from part of their heritage. If that’s you, it’s never too late to lean into it, ask questions and enjoy discovering another piece of your family’s story.

And just like that I have the most amazing friends!

We moved to Lisbon last Aug. And now we are hosting pool parties with 30 of our amazing friends! Today everyone brought their own food & drinks and we shared a beautiful sunny public holiday together!
