Small Allowance Teaches Bigger Values
As parents, we know that even a small allowance can teach lessons far bigger than the peso amount.
When my eldest was in Grade 3, she received ₱30 daily. Since she had packed snacks and a school bus ride, she didn’t need to spend it all. I taught her to divide it into three parts:
Spend now for small wants
Spend when needed for emergencies
Spend to share with classmates in need
That simple habit showed her that ₱30 can stretch into discipline, empathy, and wise spending.
Later, her “emergency fund” grew enough to open a junior bank account. By December, with added cash gifts, she was amazed at her savings.
I told her: “Spend half for your Christmas gift — you earned that. Keep the other half in the bank, so you start the new year prepared.”
She learned that saving makes spending meaningful.
My youngest, when he was also in Grade 3, received the same ₱30. With a little crush in school, we teased him to buy her a Sundae or a C2.
He replied, "Mahal pa yun. There’s ice cream cups for ₱10 sa canteen— I’ll buy for us two.”
At a young age, he was already a strategist, finding joy while managing money wisely.
The lesson?
Small allowances can grow into bigger values: discipline, empathy, saving, and strategy.
These are the habits that shape not just financial literacy, but character.

One great thing that my ofw client and I discussed during our meeting is salary management.
Our income must be divided into:
Basic Expenses — essentials you can’t live without.
Emergency Fund — savings for life’s unexpected challenges.
Wants — enjoy rewards, but do not let your other priorities suffer.
Share — help family generously, but never at the cost of your own needs.
Insurance & Investment — let your money grow passively while you get older. Create an income protection tool, so when financial risks come, your hard-earned savings won't be compromised.
The wisdom behind this strategy:
We earn, spend, and we enjoy — but true financial wisdom is making sure today’s salary continues to provide for the long years we will enjoy life.
Creating wealth is one step, growing it is another story, and protecting it is the best part, when we get to be at peace, no matter what kind of challenge that we and family will have to face.

My recent client is a single dad, ofw, 28 years old.
When I asked him, “Ano ang una mong naiisip kada nagwo‑work ka, o kada nare‑receive mo ang salary mo?"
He replied, “Ang anak ko. Saka ko na iisipin ang para sa akin, basta uunahin ko ang para sa anak ko.”
I shared with him how a parent’s life insurance policy protects the child directly — even more than creating one, that assigns the child as the insured.
I highlighted: “Sa sweldo natin naka‑asa ang mga bata. Pero paano kung tayo ang mawala?
Isa pa, we will retire first. Kapag ba nag retire tayo, sa kanila tayo aasa kung kulang ang ipon natin?”
We paused.
I asked, “If I offer you ₱1M coverage, based on your monthly income, how long will this ₱1M last?” (coverage ÷ monthly income method)
And that moment of realization led us to pursue his application.
Because parents know — our income pays for our children’s comfort- No transfer of schools. No selling of properties just to get by.
We quantify properly because insurance's function is to provide our family’s needs and preserve the comfort even if we pass away.

To all young professionals: while you’re still young — start saving for your backup plan.
Truth be told: One emergency may wipe out these hard-earned savings we build today.
Now that inflation is more active than ever, it’s scary to think that one day, your salary might not keep up with basic needs.
So build your backup plan stronger:
1️⃣ Health card — for sudden check‑ups or confinement.
2️⃣ Emergency fund — not just for medical needs, but also for home repairs or car issues, and all those unexpectee needs that pop up.
3️⃣ Insurance — yes it is about death, that requires funding too.
Your final hospital bill, funeral, burial, and all others- will you be making your retired parents or siblings be responsible for it?
It must be us, who should be planning this.
And here comes the better part of insurance policies- it comes with living benefits too- build cash savings through guaranteed payouts, or projected investments.
In these times when no one can predict how high prices will rise, let's be smarter, be more responsible.
Let's keep maximizing our hard‑earned salary so it works not just for today, but for our own future too.

Advisor Sharing
What I carry most is not the recognition, but the reminder that when we put clients’ needs first, we build trust that lasts—and that is the real achievement.
-----
It was a true honor to stand before the newly coded and tenured, vaildating advisors, sharing my journey from ordinary beginnings to becoming a Sun Achiever.
The turning point came through the trust of one major client I’ve cared for, since 2016.
From trainings I echoed to them, to sessions they themselves pursued, we built not only financial protection for their family and business, but—most importantly—the peace of mind that endures whatever life may throw.
Challenges and initial “no’s” were part of the path, yet persistence led to securing their protection and earning their trust.
That breakthrough, together with smaller wins, granted me:
■ a seat at the prestigious MDRT,
■ a visit to Sun Life’s historic and global offices in Toronto, and
■ the honor of speaking at the Sun Riser’s event.
These blessings are overwhelming, but I know it is the Lord who paved the way.
To my fellow advisors: keep your focus on clients’ needs above all. Share with them the right financial path you’ve prepared—not just to make a sale, but to serve, build trust, and provide the exact protection they and their family need.
