PICPA Surigao del Norte Chapter remembers with gratitude the late Ms. Merne T. Peñaranda, former Regional Director (Director IV) of the Commission on Audit Regional Office No. XIII – Caraga.

On February 26, 2024, Ms. Merne graciously joined us during our face-to-face seminar, “Updated Documentary Requirements for Common Government Transactions in Accordance with COA Circular 2023-003,” where COA Commissioner and incoming PICPA National President Atty. Roland C. Pondoc served as our resource speaker.

Her presence that day meant much to our chapter. More than her distinguished position in public service, we will remember her for the support she extended to PICPA Surigao del Norte and for taking the time to be with us in one of our meaningful professional activities.

Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to her family, colleagues, friends, and the entire COA Caraga community.

Rest in peace, Ms. Merne T. Peñaranda. You will be remembered. 🕊️

Empowering Educators. Strengthening the Future of Accountancy Education.

PICPA Surigao del Norte Chapter proudly recognizes the participation of our Chapter President, Ms. Mayumi A. Miel, CPA, during the PICPA ABM Educators Summit on May 30, 2026, where she delivered the Welcome Remarks for the session on "Decision Making Using Accounting Information."

The session brought together Senior High School ABM educators from across Mindanao for a meaningful exchange of knowledge and best practices in teaching accounting. Guided by the theme, "Empowering Teacher Excellence Through Applied Accounting and Strategic Impact," the summit reinforced the vital role of educators in shaping competent, ethical, and future-ready accounting professionals.

PICPA remains committed to advancing excellence in accounting education by supporting educators through relevant learning opportunities, professional collaboration, and initiatives that create lasting impact in the profession.

Strengthening Governance Through Professional Excellence

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Surigao del Norte Chapter proudly participated in the LGU Surigao City and Partner Agencies Capacity Building on Diversion, Intervention Proceedings, and Financial Accountability, held on May 29 to 30, 2026, at the 3rd Floor, Surigao City Police Station, Surigao City. The two-day capacity-building activity brought together Barangay Officials, Local Government Personnel, and Partner Agencies to enhance their knowledge and skills in diversion and intervention proceedings, financial accountability, juvenile justice, restorative justice, budgeting, and administrative governance.

The event highlighted the significant contributions of PICPA members who served as resource persons. Ms. Myka Bianca T. Geraldino-Logronio, CPA shared her expertise on Basic Accounting for Non-Accountants, while Atty. Jeffrey P. Galido, CPA discussed the Overview on Accounting and Budgeting. Hon. Judge Leonila P. Gorgolon, CPA likewise served as one of the distinguished speakers, sharing her insights on the Juvenile Justice System and the roles of LGU officers in handling Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL). Also joining the roster of speakers was Mr. Jeserio G. Lonon Jr., CPA, a member of PICPA Northern Mindanao Region (NMR), who delivered the closing message, leaving participants with valuable reflections and inspiration.

PICPA Surigao del Norte Chapter was also represented by its officers and members under the leadership of Chapter President Ms. Mayumi A. Miel, CPA, demonstrating the organization's steadfast commitment to supporting initiatives that promote ethical leadership, sound financial management, and accountable governance.

The PICPA Surigao del Norte Chapter proudly participated in the Annual Business Meeting held on July 17, 2026, at Century Park Hotel, Manila, as part of the celebration of Philippine Accountancy Week.

More than an annual gathering, the meeting reflected PICPA's continuing commitment to lead by example by embracing sustainability in professional practice and organizational stewardship. It also reaffirmed the profession's shared responsibility to promote sound governance, ethical leadership, and responsible management.

Through our active participation, the PICPA Surigao del Norte Chapter remains one with the Institute in advancing PICPA's Actions with IMPACT, creating meaningful contributions that strengthen the accounting profession and serve the public interest.

PICPA Surigao del Norte Chapter is honored to receive a Certificate of Recognition from the Bureau of Internal Revenue for its continued support in promoting tax compliance and responsible citizenship within the business community.

The recognition was conferred during the 2026 Tax Campaign Series held on February 27, 2026, at the BIR-105 Function Room. The award was formally received by Ms. Myka Bianca T. Geraldino, PICPA-SDN Past President and Trustee, in behalf of the Chapter President, Ms. Mayumi A. Miel, CPA.

This recognition affirms the Chapter’s steadfast commitment to professionalism, integrity, and public service. PICPA-SDN shares this honor with its officers and members whose collective efforts continue to support tax awareness, compliance, and nation-building.

PICPA–SDN officers and members took part in the Regional Tax Summit held on February 25 to 26, 2026 at Mallberry Suites Business Hotel. The event was organized by Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants Northern Mindanao Region in partnership with the PICPA–CDO Chapter.

PICPA Surigao del Norte Chapter, led by its President Ms. Mayumi A. Miel, CPA, joined the 2026 Bureau of Internal Revenue Tax Campaign Kick Off, together with BIR partner organizations across the Mindanao Cluster covering RR 17 to 19. The activity was held at the Father Saturnino Urios University Gymnasium in Butuan City, highlighting a shared commitment to strengthen tax awareness and voluntary compliance in the region.
