(Posting this with the consent of my client’s family)
This client was an orphan, a former officemate, and friend.
A little backstory:
My client bought her VUL plan four years ago. Her previous advisor, who happened to be my former officemate, too, told me that the client purchased the plan four years ago with minimum life insurance coverage only with no critical Illness benefit due to limited budget.
It is better to have started rather than nothing at all.
So, when she transferred to me, I messaged her to set up a policy review and suggested to add a health coverage, since she had no critical illness benefit. But this didn't happen since she already had an existing health condition.
Based on her family’s story, my client was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, two years after getting her policy. During that time, she underwent treatment and thankfully recovered from the illness and decided to return to Iloilo, where her family lives. After returning home to Iloilo, she seemed well. But after a couple of months, she faced health problems again. As per her family, she chose not to worry them by hiding her condition again.
Fast forward to April 7, 2024, I received a message that her condition deteriorated; she even said she was ready to go. 😞 But we still prayed for her recovery and for her life to be prolonged.
Three days later, we received the sad news that my client had passed away. It was heartbreaking.
Immediately, we processed the death claim and notified Sunlife regarding my client's demise.
The family provided the death certificate in April 15 together with other documentary requirements. Then after two days, her claim was approved, and the checks could be obtained.
After claiming the checks, my unit manager, Ms. Aira Doria and I immediately booked a flight to Iloilo to personally deliver the checks to her three beneficiaries (her husband, mother, and father).
No money or thing can replace her presence for her family. But with this claim, my client’s family can carry on with their lives and dreams. This is not payment for life but proof of Ate Marcy's love for her family. Even though she is no longer physically present, she is still there to support them.
Ate Marcy, wherever you are now, I know you are happy. Thank you for the time I worked with you; I know how kind you are, that's why many of us love you. I will pray for you always. We will all miss you.
To end, thank you so much to God for making me an instrument to help more families. This made me love my job even more. It intensified my belief in my advocacy that I can help change people’s lives.
Thank you so much, UM Aira Doria, for accompanying me to Iloilo and for promptly assisting the processing of the claim.
Thank you so much also to my client’s family, for taking care of us while we were in Iloilo.
I am forever grateful to be in this noble job. Thank you, Lord, and thank you, Sunlife.
To those who might have lost their previous advisors or are not in contact with them anymore, let me be a beacon of hope for you. Just send me a message, and I’ll be happy to assist you in any way that I can.
Much love,
