R U OK? Day
Today, the Munro Benge team took some time out of our day to share morning tea and recognise R U OK? Day.
While it is predominantly an Australian awareness day, as part of the Walker Wayland Australasia network we were pleased to support its important message—along with some lovely R U OK? KitKats!
It was a timely reminder that a simple conversation can make a real difference. You don’t need to be an expert—taking the time to ask, “Are you OK?” and genuinely listening is a great place to start.
But what if you’re the one who isn’t feeling OK? You don’t have to manage things alone. As a Munro Benge client, you have access to confidential support through our Acacia Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).
Visit www.acaciaconnection.com to access the service and find the support you need.

Investing in Our Future Leaders
Last week, Alison attended the first in-person session of Round 3 of the WWA Senior Leadership Program in Brisbane.
The programme brought together emerging leaders from across the Walker Wayland Australasia network to learn, challenge their thinking, share experiences and invest in their professional development.
Facilitated by Judith-Rose Max from Mirato Coaching, the session provided a valuable opportunity to build leadership skills and connect with peers from across the WWA community.
We’re proud to support Alison as she takes part in the programme and look forward to seeing her bring her new insights and experiences back to the Munro Benge team.

Building Better Firms | WWA Collaboration Think Tank
Last week, Shane, Shanan and Alison attended the WWA Collaboration Think Tank in Brisbane, joining fellow Walker Wayland Australasia firms for a day of learning, discussion and collaboration.
With the theme “Building Better Firms”, the programme covered a range of topics focused on strengthening firms for the future, including:
Building Better People – developing people at every stage of their journey within a firm.
Building Better Strategy – exploring strategic direction and planning for the future.
Building Better Options – looking at new opportunities and solutions available to firms.
Building Better Pathways – a conversation with CAANZ.
Building Better Leaders – a collaborative session focused on leadership and sharing ideas across the WWA network.
The day finished with a working lunch, “Off the Books – Why Cognitive Capital is the Asset Nobody’s Managing”, with Ruth Limkin from The Banyans Healthcare.
A great day of sharing ideas, learning from others and bringing some fresh thinking back to Munro Benge – reflecting what being part of the WWA network is all about:

The DIY Approach to Accounting: Is It Worth the Risk?
Accounting software has made it easier to manage your own business finances—but entering the numbers is only part of the job.
The same applies to accounting advice from AI. It can be a useful starting point, but—just like advice from your mate at the pub or internet strangers on Reddit—it may be outdated, incomplete or simply wrong.
Without the right accounting and tax knowledge, it can be easy to:
Claim expenses incorrectly or miss deductions
Make GST coding errors
Misunderstand your true profit or cash position
Miss filing and payment deadlines
Make business decisions based on inaccurate reports
Pay too much tax—or not enough
Small mistakes can quickly become costly, particularly when they are not discovered until a return is filed or Inland Revenue starts asking questions.
A good accountant does more than prepare returns. They help you understand your numbers, identify potential issues early and make informed decisions about your business.
Doing it yourself might appear to save money—but getting it right from the beginning could save you much more.

Today is Daffodil Day!
As people across New Zealand support the Cancer Society today, it’s also a timely reminder that donations of $5 or more made to approved organisations may qualify for a donation tax credit.
Individuals can generally claim back one-third of eligible donations. Remember to keep your donation receipts, as the total donations claimed cannot exceed your taxable income for the year.

28 August is just around the corner
GST and provisional tax payments may be due, but the timing doesn’t always work for your business or its cash flow.
If funds are tight, tax pooling may provide more flexibility with your provisional tax payment. Flexible payment arrangements, no Inland Revenue late payment penalties and a competitive interest rate could help you manage the deadline without putting unnecessary pressure on your cash flow.
If you think you may have difficulty making your payment on time, talk to us before 28 August.
A quick conversation could make all the difference.
