Most days I’m working from home, behind my desk, supporting my clients through CG Consulting while my local team works remotely in the background.
Once or twice a week, I get to step out, visit clients and connect with people—mainly at BNI Elite, where I currently sit as Vice President. And honestly, it’s been such a big part of my growth.
BNI Elite isn’t just networking to me—it feels like my own little business. Some meetings run perfectly, some don’t, but every week, it teaches me leadership, resilience, and how to keep showing up.

Here's the confusion we see all the time: "I need a CA."

Actually, you might need a bookkeeper first.

Let's break it down in plain English:

A Bookkeeper records every single transaction, every sale, every expense, every payment - Correctly. They organize your financial records month after month so your books are clean and accurate. This foundational work is critical to your business. Not all bookkeepers are certified and have the education, and background and this experience matters tremendously. You need someone who understands your specific industry and this isn't a generic role, this isn't a 'side gig'.

A CA is a licensed professional. Specifically CAs can legally use the title "accountant." A CA's primary role is tax strategy, tax planning, and tax filing. While CAs firms offer bookkeeping services, it's not their core function. Here's the critical part: don't assume your CA is reviewing your bookkeeping. Many CAs file taxes based on the books you provide, they're not auditing or cleaning up your work. If you want your books reviewed and organized, that's a bookkeeper's job.

Here's what most small business owners actually need:

You need BOTH: A bookkeeper to handle the daily work of recording transactions and keeping your books organized. Make sure that person has bookkeeping experience in your industry. Once your books are clean and accurate, you work with a CA for taxes and strategy. We partner with CAs across the country and work hand in hand with them. When you have a strong bookkeeper and a strong CA working together, that's when your business gets the financial clarity and strategy it needs.

Trying to file taxes with messy books? That's expensive(yes, that actually will cost you money) and stressful. Getting your bookkeeping right first with someone who understands your business, then partnering with a CA? That's smart business.

Today I attended the LinkedIn Local Tauranga event at the beautiful Tauranga Club, where the topic was AI. A few amazing speakers shared insights and answered questions about how AI is shaping the way we work.
💡 My key takeaway:
Avoid free AI pop-ups—they’re not always safe. Instead, use trusted tools you already have, like Microsoft Copilot or Google Workspace AI. From there, you can explore what else you need. Free isn’t always the best option!
