Starting a business is exciting... but it also comes with a lot of questions.
Some of our favourite client relationships are the ones that grow alongside the business itself.
We've had the privilege of supporting clients as they've gone from employees to business owners, helping them navigate everything from business setup through to the exciting challenges that come with growth.
Being there from the very beginning means we don't just understand the numbers; we understand the journey.
If you could go back to the day you started your business, what's one piece of advice you'd give yourself?

One thing I've learnt after working with hundreds of businesses is that turnover gets far more attention than it deserves.
It's exciting to say you've had a record sales month. But higher sales don't automatically mean a healthier business.
I've seen businesses turning over millions of dollars while struggling to pay their bills. I've also seen smaller businesses with modest turnover generating excellent profits and giving their owners far more freedom.
The difference usually comes down to one thing: margin.
How much are you actually keeping after you've delivered your product or service?
Because at the end of the day, it's not about how much money flows through your business; it's about how much stays there.
If you're only tracking sales, you might be missing the number that matters most.

Year-end isn't when problems start. It's just when you find out about them.
Waiting until year-end to look at your numbers means every issue has already had 12 months to grow. And it's rarely one big thing; it's usually a handful of small ones compounding quietly:
→ A pricing mistake repeated on every job all year
→ Provisional tax payments falling further behind each instalment
→ A slow-paying client whose balance kept climbing because no one flagged it early
Regular check-ins catch all of this while it's still small and cheap to fix. Monthly, not annually, is the difference between a quick conversation and a genuine scramble.
Let's put a regular rhythm around your numbers. Book a free consult.

We've been doing this since 1987. Long enough to see every "unprecedented" challenge repeat itself.
Since 1987, we've worked alongside small and medium businesses across Rotorua, Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty through booms, downturns, and everything in between.
That matters more than usual right now. Only around 27% of NZ SMEs started in 2015 were still operating in 2025 a reminder that surviving long-term takes more than a good idea and hard work. It takes someone in your corner who's seen the pattern before and knows what actually works when things get tight, when they get busy, and everywhere in between.

"I just need an accountant" means different things at different stages of business.
We built three levels of support because no two businesses need the same thing. Swipe to see which stage you're at and what kind of support actually matches it.
Not sure which one you need? That's what the free consult is for.

More sales. More stress. Sound familiar?
Growth is supposed to feel like momentum. For a lot of NZ business owners right now, it feels like sprinting faster on a treadmill that's speeding up beneath them. Small business sales rose 4.8% year-on-year last quarter, the best result in three years, but the businesses best placed to actually benefit are the ones with enough working capital to bridge the gap between delivering the work and getting paid for it.
That gap usually isn't a "you" problem; it's a systems problem. Three things that turn growth from stressful into sustainable:
→ A cash flow forecast that shows you the squeeze before it hits, not after
→ Clear payment terms and a follow-up process, so growth doesn't mean chasing more invoices
→ Pricing and margins reviewed regularly; busier doesn't always mean more profitable
Let's build the structure that makes growth feel good.

The businesses that struggle most aren't the ones with the biggest problems. They're the ones who waited to mention them.
We can't fix what we don't know about. And with IRD winding up applications up sharply and cash flow now the biggest thing standing between businesses and the recovery everyone's talking about, timing matters more than ever.
If any of this sounds familiar, it's a conversation for now, not for tax time:
→ Cash is tighter than it should be given how busy you are
→ A big decision is coming up (hiring, a lease, new equipment)
→ Something feels "off" in the numbers, but you can't quite name it
→ You're behind on tax payments and hoping it sorts itself out
It won't sort itself out. But it's very fixable early and much harder to fix late.
Something on your mind?
