π’ Big Changes Are Coming to NZ Holiday Pay!
After years of confusion around holiday pay calculations, New Zealand is moving to a new employment leave system designed to be simpler for both employers and employees.
Here's a quick overview of what's changing π
β
Annual leave will start accruing from Day One
β
Sick leave will start accruing from Day One
β
Leave will be tracked in HOURS instead of weeks and days
β
Employees can take leave in part-day increments
β
A simpler holiday pay calculation method will apply
β
Casual and additional hours will attract 12.5% leave compensation
β
Bereavement and Family Violence Leave will be available from Day One
β
Public holiday rules will be simplified
What Does This Mean for Employers?
πΉ The current Holidays Act still applies for now.
πΉ No immediate changes are required.
πΉ Start reviewing payroll systems and employment agreements.
πΉ Plan ahead for an hours-based leave system.
πΉ Keep an eye on guidance from Employment New Zealand and MBIE.
