More than accountants. Since 1907, BWR has been the first call for Hawke's Bay families, farmers and businesses, for the big decisions and the everyday ones.

Local. Personal. Practical. BWR is proud of its history and origins dating back to the early 1900’s, and we’re also proud to say we’re still a 100% locally owned and operated Hawke's Bay business. Like a number of the families we act for, we’ve been around for a long time, our feet are well and truly cemented in the heart of this fantastic region, and we plan to be around supporting business in th

Remember why you started?

More freedom. More choices. More opportunities for your family.

Feel like you’re working harder than ever with less time for the things that matter.

The real measure of successful strategy isn’t higher turnover.

Ensure your business is helping you live the life you want.

Growing business. Enhancing lives.

A full calendar doesn't always mean a healthy bottom line.

Understanding where your profits come from, and where they're being lost, can help you make better decisions and build a stronger business.

Because being busy and being profitable aren't always the same thing.

Every month, business owners lose countless hours to tasks that simply need doing.

Payroll. Admin. Compliance. Invoices. Returns. Paperwork.

Necessary? Absolutely.

The best use of your time? Usually not.

What if those hours could be spent elsewhere – where you add the greatest value?

Coaching the kids. Dinner with family. A long weekend away. Building the business. Or simply taking a breath.

The biggest productivity gain don’t come from working harder.

They come from removing the things that shouldn’t be on your plate in the first place.

Growing business. Enhancing lives.

Daffodil Day meets BWR Battle! 🎨

We recently got the team together for a Daffodil Day morning tea, with our staff generously donating to support the Cancer Society. Together, we raised $840.00 – a fantastic effort from the team!

We also took the opportunity to squeeze in Round 4 of the BWR Battle, and this time things got creative.

Working in our teams, we had just 30 minutes to complete a daffodil paint-by-numbers masterpiece before handing them over to our guest judge, Clayton Gibson, art teacher at Taikura Rudolf Steiner School, to decide the winner!

A great morning of friendly competition, plenty of laughs, and most importantly, supporting a very worthy cause.💛

Meet Mark Coombe, Associate at BWR.

Mark works across a real mix of clients, from primary production and export through to professional and commercial services. That variety gives him a broad base of experience to draw from for every client he works with.

Proudly born and raised in Hawke's Bay, Mark's path into accountancy started at Hastings Boys' High School. He began his career with Touche Ross in 1987, studied a BBS at Massey University, then joined what was then Brown Webb and Partners in 1992, going on to become a Chartered Accountant.

Outside of work, Mark loves spending time outdoors with his wife Tracey and their kids. He's a big supporter of the region's walking and cycling pathways, and reckons they've been one of the best investments Hawke's Bay has made.

Have you worked with Mark? Let us know below.

Our fourth Legacy Partner: BWR Chartered Accountants.

BWR Chartered Accountants - Hawke's Bay have been part of Hawke's Bay since the early 1900s, working alongside local families, farmers and businesses through the decisions that shape what they build and pass on.

As a Legacy Partner, they join a growing group of Hawke's Bay firms helping their clients think about giving and legacy, with specialist philanthropic advice from us whenever those conversations arise.

That's four firms now, and it's becoming a movement: local advisors choosing to open up conversations about generosity and lasting local impact. It's a good thing to watch grow.

Good to have BWR with us.

GST, PAYE, FBT, ACC. The returns keep coming whether you've got time for them or not, and getting them wrong is more costly than getting them done.

At BWR, we handle preparation, filing, and everything in between, plus your end of year financial statements, so you always know where your business stands. Less time on compliance. More time running your business.

Meet Regan Loach, Director at BWR.

Regan works alongside business owners and boards across Hawke's Bay and further afield, helping them turn financial information into clear, confident decisions. With over 20 years in commercial advisory, tax and the food and fibre sector, he brings a practical, grounded approach to whatever challenge a client is facing, whether that's growth, restructuring, or just getting a clearer picture of where things stand.

He's always had a soft spot for rural clients. "It's an industry with incredible value add potential from a product and marketing perspective, and food will never be out of favour."

Outside the office you'll find him following his kids on the sports fields or giving his time to the Hawke's Bay A&P Society, and as a Trustee for Cranford Hospice and the Hastings District Community Arts Trust.

If you value practical advice, straight thinking, and insight that leads to action—Regan is always open to a conversation.

HBRRA LIFE MEMBERSHIPS 2026

In the thirty-one years of the Hawkes Bay Rugby Referees Association's existence, there have been eleven life memberships awarded. At our prize-giving last month, another two names were added to the life members list.

Brent Malone and Stephen Dine have been part of the HBRRA since its inception back in 1995. They actually had started as members of the Hastings referees group prior to the amalgamation. Brent took up refereeing in 1990 and Stephen in 1994, after many seasons of playing the game.

Both have made immense contributions to our association and the wider rugby community in Hawkes Bay. They have served on the Executive for lengthy tenures. As treasurer for many years, Stephen has been instrumental in advising and guiding the committee to the very healthy financial position it is in today. Brent was also on the HBRRA Executive for an extended period of time. He served as chairman for seven years, as well as a significant time prior to taking on that position as an executive member. Both brought skills from their professional life which they used to enhance and grow our association in terms of effectiveness, strategy and reputation.

Stephen and Brent are excellent referees who love being there to support their colleagues, as well as enjoying their opportunities in the middle. Known for being consistent and fair officials, they have taken on hundreds of matches over the seasons. In addition, they willingly take on any assigned AR roles and do them with aplomb. Brent and Stephen were also excellent coaches, offering positive and meaningful encouragement and support to those they were assigned to watch.

Many thanks to Brent and Stephen for all you have given to the rugby community in Hawkes Bay and in particular the success of our association. We acknowledge the very fitting accolade of life membership you have both been recognised with.
