In 1879 two brothers, George and William Bowron, master tanners of Yorkshire, set sail for Christchurch in the new colony of New Zealand.They were to start a new life and realise a personal dream ... to start a tannery of their own. As Christchurch grew, the small tannery, started in 1881 by the Bowron brothers, flourished and a family tradition of excellence in lambskin tanning began. Their commitment to quality has continued and over 100 years later, the team at Bowron continue to make the name "Bowron" synonymous with the world's finest sheepskin products.

We often get asked if Bowron makes sheepskin slippers. We don’t make the slippers ourselves — we supply the sheepskin to the talented Kiwi manufacturers who do. 🇳🇿

The same goes for many other products. Our sheepskins are supplied to manufacturers making everything from footwear and horse saddlery to a wide range of specialist products.

Bowron isn’t just about sheepskins for the home. A big part of what we do is supplying quality sheepskin to New Zealand businesses who turn it into great products, right here in NZ. Our Kiwi Manufacturers deliver hands down, the best quality money can buy.
