Important myIR GST & EMP Registration Changes for NZ Businesses
From 12 September 2026, Inland Revenue is changing how businesses register for GST and employer tax (EMP) through myIR.
Key changes include:
GST and EMP registrations will be completed separately from the non-individual IRD number application.
Tax agents will use the Intermediary Centre ā Client Registration process.
A refund bank account will no longer be required for EMP registration.
The Companies Office registration process remains unchanged.
