Born and raised in Kanchanpur, Akash is a highly motivated young man who works as a household worker in Kathmandu. With a family of four; two kids in the middle school with ever-increasing need and frequently varying uniform sizes, he and his wife strive every day to meet their daily needs. For him, money is a temporary mean which comes and goes on a daily basis therefore, saving is hard. When queried, the biggest fear he has about money is a ‘bad investment’. He worries he might get deceived by both, people as well as organizations. This fear has led him to think it’s better to have kept the money with oneself than to take the risk of earning a handful amount of interest.
Their economic challenges have not yet caused any conflict in his family and are managing well but he believes and says in jest, it might be because he hardly gets to spend time with his wife who works for 3 different families. However, if it were to improve, his relation with his wife might get better. He agrees that money, if had enough, is freedom and he wouldn’t be able to choose one among his many dreams given the resources.
He has very much misjudged the idea of financial planning as he thinks it is only done with large sum of money. Also, he says it hardly implies on his family whose income equals the expenditure so financial planning comes in the least of his concerns.
According to Akash, rich people are always prioritized, given more privileges and opportunities are wider for them. The society and the government favors and will continue to favor the rich regardless of all the laws made in the name of equity or equality.
