One thing I realized this week...
People think bookkeeping is about numbers.
For me, it's about timelines.
A client recently shared the tax deadlines from their accountant. What caught my attention wasn't the due date—it was that the accountant wanted everything six weeks before the deadline.
My first thought wasn't, "Okay, six weeks."
It was...
If the accountant needs it six weeks early, then I need the books finished before that.
If I need the books finished, then I need all the receipts before that.
If I need the receipts, then there needs to be an easy way to collect them all year long.
Suddenly, a tax deadline isn't one date anymore. It's a process.
Maybe that's years of being a single parent.
When you're raising kids, your brain learns to work backwards:
Doctor's appointment at 2:00.
Leave the house by 1:20.
Lunch before that.
Find the insurance card.
Pack snacks.
Make sure everyone has shoes.
Business isn't all that different.
The goal isn't just to have accurate books.
The goal is to build systems that make deadlines feel...uneventful.
Because when the process works, tax season stops being a fire drill.
