ICAN, Stanbic IBTC Strengthen Partnership on Professional Development and Capacity Building
A shared commitment to building stronger professionals and institutions took centre stage on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, as the President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, mni, MSc, FCA, led a delegation on a courtesy call to the Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic IBTC Bank Limited, Mr Chuma Nwokocha, in Lagos.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to strengthen their relationship and explore strategic areas of collaboration in professional education and capacity building.
In her address, Hajia Seghosime highlighted ICAN’s transition from paper based examinations to Computer Based Examinations, describing it as an important investment in the future of professional education. She invited Stanbic IBTC to partner with the Institute in advancing the transformation.
She also sought the Bank’s partnership for the 56th Annual Accountants’ Conference, scheduled for October 18 to 23, 2026, in Abuja, under the theme, “Beyond Numbers: Strengthening the Economy, Securing the Nation.”
Responding, Mr Nwokocha expressed the Bank’s readiness to explore a strategic partnership with ICAN, emphasising the importance of discipline and integrity in professional practice. He also commended the professionalism of ICAN members in the employment of Stanbic IBTC.
He pledged the Bank’s support for the 56th Annual Accountants’ Conference, noting that Stanbic IBTC sponsors a minimum of 20 members of staff to participate annually.
The engagement also featured a presentation on “Employee Value Banking for ICAN”, highlighting opportunities for further collaboration and value creation.
The courtesy call concluded with both institutions expressing their commitment to deepening their relationship and pursuing practical areas of collaboration that support professional development and Nigeria’s economic growth.

ICAN PRESIDENT COMMENDS EDO STATE UNIVERSITY FOR SUPPORTING SOUTHERN ZONAL CONFERENCE
The President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, mni, MSc, FCA, has commended the Management of Edo State University, Iyamho, for its support towards the successful hosting of the 9th ICAN Southern Zonal Accountants’ Conference.
Hajia Seghosime made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Victor Olawale Adetimirin, where she appreciated the University for making the Aliko Dangote Auditorium available for the Conference.
She noted the importance of stronger collaboration between academia and the accountancy profession in equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and professional mindset required for the changing world of work.
The ICAN President also expressed the Institute’s readiness to deepen engagement with the University through accounting education, research, professional sensitisation and career mentoring, while inviting the Vice Chancellor to the 56th Annual Accountants’ Conference scheduled for 18 to 23 October 2026 in Abuja.

ICAN PRESIDENT ENGAGES BUA CEMENT ON INDUSTRIAL GROWTH AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, mni, MSc, FCA, has engaged the Plant Director of BUA Cement Plc, Okpella, Engr Ahmed Idris, during a courtesy visit as part of activities marking the 9th ICAN Southern Zonal Accountants’ Conference.
Hajia Seghosime commended BUA Cement for its contribution to Nigeria’s industrial development, highlighting the importance of manufacturing, innovation and responsible investment to sustainable economic growth.
She also emphasised the role of Chartered Accountants in supporting businesses through sound financial management, risk management, governance and strategic decision making, while calling for stronger collaboration between the profession and the private sector.
The ICAN President invited the Plant Director and Management Team to the 9th Southern Zonal Accountants’ Conference and the 56th Annual Accountants’ Conference, scheduled to hold in Abuja from 18 to 23 October 2026.

Strengthening the relationship between ICAN and traditional institutions was at the heart of a courtesy visit by the 62nd President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, mni, MSc, FCA, to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Aliru H. Momoh, Ikelebe III, the Otaru of Auchi.
The visit, held as part of activities marking the 9th ICAN Southern Zonal Accountants’ Conference, provided an opportunity for Hajia Seghosime to appreciate the Otaru for honouring her Investiture on 2 June 2026 and for the warm reception accorded to the ICAN delegation in Auchi.
She highlighted the shared values of traditional leadership and the accountancy profession, particularly integrity, trust, stewardship and service, while reaffirming ICAN’s commitment to supporting young people and strengthening its engagement with communities.

The President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, mni, MSc, FCA, has paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Aliyu Kevin Danesi, Oba Idanesi III, Aidonogie of South Ibie Kingdom, as part of activities marking the 9th ICAN Southern Zonal Accountants’ Conference.
During the visit, Hajia Seghosime expressed appreciation to the traditional ruler for his support, including his presence at her Investiture on 2 June 2026.
She emphasised the importance of collaboration between professional and traditional institutions in promoting economic development, integrity and opportunities for young people, while also inviting the Aidonogie and members of the Traditional Council to the Conference.
The visit was attended by members of the ICAN Presidency and Governing Council, the Registrar/Chief Executive, and other executives of the Southern Zone.

ICAN PRESIDENT FLAGS OFF CONSTRUCTION OF LEARNING CENTRE IN AUCHI
The 62nd President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, mni, MSc, FCA, has flagged off the construction of the ICAN Learning Centre in Auchi, Edo State, as part of the Institute’s efforts to expand access to accounting education, professional development and skills acquisition.
The foundation laying ceremony, held on Friday, 14 August 2026, marked the commencement of the project, which is designed to provide a conducive environment for learning, professional examinations and practical skills development for young people and other members of the community.
The proposed centre will provide an early pathway into accounting for secondary school students, exposing them to basic accounting knowledge and practical skills such as bookkeeping. It will also support candidates preparing for professional examinations, including the Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa (ATSWA) examinations.
Beyond learning, the multi purpose facility is expected to serve as a hub for professional examinations, skills acquisition and other educational activities, bringing ICAN’s programmes and opportunities closer to the people of Auchi and surrounding communities.
The ceremony was attended by members of the ICAN Presidency, Council members, traditional rulers, invited guests and other stakeholders.
Among the traditional rulers present were His Royal Highness, Alhaji Aliru H. Momoh, Ikelebe III, and His Royal Highness, Alhaji Aliyu Kevin Danesi, Oba Idanesi III, Aidonogie of South Ibie Kingdom while the Guest of Honour, Mr. Peter Dunia, was represented by Engr. Franklyn Owegie.
The technical presentation of the proposed facility was delivered by Engr. Ezolome Mohammed, who provided an overview of the building and its planned capacity to support the centre’s educational and professional activities.
The project reflects ICAN’s commitment to investing in the next generation by creating opportunities for young Nigerians to gain relevant knowledge, professional exposure and practical skills.
With the foundation now laid, construction of the ICAN Learning Centre in Auchi has commenced, bringing the Institute’s vision of expanding access to accounting education and professional development closer to reality.
