Many Malaysian parents still don’t know this: a child can open a KWSP / EPF account from age 14.

They don’t have to wait until their first full-time job. Starting early gives their savings more time to grow through regular contributions and EPF dividends.

If the child genuinely earns from freelance work, gig jobs or a small business and meets the i-Saraan requirements, they may receive a 20% incentive, capped at RM500 per year.

Important: opening an EPF account does not automatically qualify them for the incentive. Eligibility must be checked first.

In Malaysia, LHDN will usually check whether the debt came from your business, whether an invoice was issued, whether it was already included as company income, whether you have follow-up records, and whether it was properly treated in the accounts.

If the owner simply says “forget it, no need to pay”, it may not be deductible.�The safest way is to prepare a Bad Debt File for each customer and pass it to your accountant.
