A Meaningful Malaysia Day Celebration 🇲🇾

In conjunction with Malaysia Day, we celebrated the spirit of unity, harmony and compassion with the children of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary, a home that provides a safe and caring environment for 60 children.

In the spirit of giving, we contributed cash donations, groceries and electrical items to support the Home’s needs, while each child received a special gift of their own. Nothing brought us more joy than seeing their faces light up with excitement as they received their gifts ❤️

The celebration ended on a joyful note as we gathered over a buffet meal, sharing good food, laughter and memorable moments together.

As we celebrate our nation, we also celebrate its future — our children. May they always stay healthy, grow with confidence and look towards a future filled with hope and possibilities ✨

In an exclusive interview with RTM, Alan Chung, President of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM) and Senior Executive Director at Grant Thornton Malaysia, shares his views on the potential consolidation of tax functions between the Inland Revenue Board (HASiL) and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD).

He highlights the need for a long-term structural study to be undertaken to assess the potential consolidation of tax functions, including a comparative analysis of integrated tax administration models internationally. In addition, there should be an assessment of Malaysia’s current tax administration framework, such as the identification of overlapping functions and inefficiencies.

The scope of the study should also include an assessment of the potential for data integration, including the use of digital platforms and artificial intelligence (AI)-based compliance technologies.

Our ‘Insights into MFRS 15’ series outlines the key aspects of the Standard, drawing attention to areas that are particularly difficult to apply in practice, with the aim of helping reporting entities better understand and implement MFRS 15’s requirements.

With Budget 2027 around the corner, tax experts shared their perspectives on how Malaysia can strengthen its existing tax system.

Mr Chow Chee Yen, our Senior Executive Director of Tax Advisory & Compliance recently shared his views with The Edge, where he highlighted fine-tuning exemptions available under SST, including broadening the scope of exempted services or making existing exemption conditions less restrictive.

He also suggested leveraging e-Invoicing to strengthen compliance, alongside incentives, concessions or penalty waivers to encourage voluntary adoption while helping businesses manage implementation and compliance costs.
