📢 Official Confirmation: LHDN Clarifies e-Invoice Exemption Rules (FAQ updated 4 September 2026)

Following the Prime Minister's announcement raising the e-Invoice exemption threshold from RM1 million to RM3 million, LHDN has published updated FAQs answering exactly the questions our clients have been asking:

✅ No penalties for past non-compliance. If your revenue is now under RM3 million and you meet the exemption criteria, you won't be penalized even if you haven't issued e-Invoices since your original implementation date.

✅ No application needed. Taxpayers don't need to submit anything to LHDN to claim the exemption — it applies automatically if you qualify.

✅ Free to stop anytime. Already issuing e-Invoices but now qualify for the exemption? You can discontinue immediately — no formal process required.

✅ Voluntary continuation is fine too. Prefer to keep issuing e-Invoices anyway? That's allowed, and LHDN welcomes it in support of the digitalization initiative.
