The construction of Penang’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) project will commence in December, with the first station located at Lebuh Macallum. The 29km Mutiara Line, part of the Penang Transport Master Plan, will feature 20 stations, connecting Penang Sentral to key areas like Komtar, the Penang International Airport, and Silicon Island. Completion is expected by 2030.
With MRT Corp as the project developer, the LRT is projected to ease traffic congestion and boost economic activity. The civil works package will cost RM7.6 billion, with additional contracts for electrification and signalling works. The project will also create jobs and encourage green transportation.
