LACE and Senator Amara Konneh Transform Road Network in Gbarpolu County

The Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), in partnership with the Office of Gbarpolu County Senator Hon. Amara M. Konneh, is making significant progress in improving road infrastructure across Gbarpolu County through an ambitious road rehabilitation and construction initiative.

The project involves the rehabilitation of several major roads, while also constructing new roads in communities that, for the first time in the county's history, are gaining road access. These new connections are expected to improve transportation, increase access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities, and enhance economic opportunities for residents.

The road works are being implemented by LACE under the direct supervision of the Agency's Executive Director, Mr. Julius K. Sele, who has reaffirmed the Agency's commitment to delivering quality infrastructure that meets the needs of rural communities.

Funding for the initiative is being provided by the Office of Senator Hon. Amara M. Konneh as part of the Senator's commitment to improving the living conditions of the people of Gbarpolu County through sustainable development.

As construction progresses, residents have expressed optimism that the improved road network will reduce travel time, promote trade and agriculture, and open up previously isolated communities to greater economic and social opportunities.

The collaboration between LACE and the Office of Senator Amara M. Konneh reflects a shared commitment to community empowerment and inclusive development, ensuring that no community is left behind in Liberia's development agenda. In another development, LACE boss, Mr. Sele paid a courtesy call on Mr. Vanballmoos, Director General of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) of Liberia's.

LACE Executive Director Presents Proposed Amendments to LACE Act Before Liberian Senate

Monrovia, Liberia – July 16, 2026 – The Executive Director of the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), Mr. Julius K. Sele, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, appeared before the Liberian Senate to present and defend the proposed amendments to the Act establishing LACE, following the submission of the amendment bill by His Excellency President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr.

Addressing members of the Senate, Mr. Sele emphasized that the proposed amendments are intended to strengthen the Agency's ability to mobilize resources and sustain community development initiatives at a time when Liberia is experiencing a significant decline in traditional donor support.

He noted that as international development partners gradually reduce funding to developing countries, there is an urgent need for LACE to diversify its sources of financing in order to continue implementing high-impact community development projects across Liberia.

Mr. Sele highlighted that one of the key provisions of the proposed amendments would empower LACE to access and manage Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds from both national and international companies operating in Liberia. According to him, these resources would be directed toward critical infrastructure and community empowerment projects that improve the lives of ordinary Liberians.

"The reality is that Liberia is experiencing donor fatigue, making it imperative for LACE to explore alternative and sustainable financing mechanisms," Mr. Sele told the Senate. "Corporate Social Responsibility funds present a significant opportunity to support national development while ensuring that communities hosting business operations benefit from meaningful social investments."

The Executive Director further explained that the amendment would position LACE as a stronger implementing institution capable of partnering with government, the private sector, and development partners to deliver transparent, accountable, and impactful projects throughout the country.

The proposed amendment to the LACE Act forms part of the Government of Liberia's broader efforts to strengthen national institutions and create sustainable financing mechanisms for community development. If enacted, the revised legislation is expected to enhance LACE's mandate and expand its capacity to implement projects that promote inclusive growth and improve the living standards of communities nationwide.

The Senate is expected to continue its deliberations on the proposed amendments before taking further legislative action.

LACE Commences Construction of the Grand Gedeh University Student Center

The Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) has officially commenced the implementation of the Grand Gedeh University Student Center on the campus of Grand Gedeh University in Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County.

The project is being financed by the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Fund, demonstrating the company's commitment to supporting education and community development in Grand Gedeh County. LACE is implementing the project under the leadership of its Executive Director, Mr. Julius K. Sele.

As part of the initial phase of the project, the construction site has been fully cleared, creating the necessary foundation for civil works to commence. Construction will be undertaken by Only God's Grace, a Liberian-owned construction firm based in Nimba County, selected to execute the project.

To ensure quality implementation, LACE has deployed its technical team to the project site. Architect Enoch senwoyenko and Engineer Daniel Kolako are on the ground providing technical oversight and engineering support throughout the construction process. The Executive Director, Mr. Julius K. Sele, is also providing overall supervisory guidance to ensure that the project is completed according to the approved specifications, timeline, and quality standards.

Once completed, the Student Center will provide a modern facility that will enhance student life by creating a conducive environment for learning, academic collaboration, meetings, recreational activities, and other campus engagements. The project represents another milestone in the growing partnership between LPRC and LACE in delivering impactful development initiatives that directly ben efit Liberian communities. The cost of the project is One Hundred Sixty-five Thousand United States Dollars (US$165,000.00)

Japanese Wood Workshop Warehouse Nearing Completion

The construction of the warehouse component of the Japanese Wood Workshop Project is rapidly nearing completion, marking another significant milestone in the implementation of this important bilateral development initiative between the Government of Liberia and the Government and People of Japan.

Implemented by the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), the project is being executed by the BMC Group, whose construction team has made substantial progress on the warehouse facility. The structure is now in its final stages, with the remaining finishing works expected to be completed soon.

The warehouse is a major component of the Japanese Wood Workshop Project and will provide a secure and modern storage facility for timber, machinery, finished products, and other essential equipment. Upon completion, it will significantly enhance the workshop's operational efficiency, strengthen vocational and technical training opportunities, and contribute to sustainable skills development and job creation.

LACE continues to provide close supervision to ensure that construction meets the required quality standards and is completed within the agreed timeframe. The Agency remains committed to successfully delivering the project in fulfillment of the longstanding partnership between Liberia and Japan, reflecting the shared commitment of both governments to community empowerment and sustainable development.
