The EKV BDS team in Mwatate was honoured to host the Chairman of the Micro and Small Enterprise Authority (MSEA), Mr. James Mureu.
We sincerely appreciate his recognition of the impactful work our trainers are delivering as we conclude the classroom phase and transition into a 3-month mentorship programme for the 1,800 entrepreneurs we’ve been supporting across the nine North Eastern and Coastal counties.
Through this training, MSME clusters have gained practical, actionable skills that are strengthening enterprise governance, improving financial management, enhancing productivity, and expanding market access across Kenya’s priority value chains.
At EKV Group, our commitment remains unwavering to equip these businesses not just to operate, but to thrive.

EKV Group is currently conducting Business Development Training for over 1,800 MSMEs across 9 counties in the Coastal and Northern Kenya regions.
These businesses cut across key value chains including Edible Oils, the Blue Economy, Construction, Dairy, Leather, and ICT.
Our teams are actively on the ground, currently in Kwale and Mombasa, having already completed successful sessions in Lamu, Kilifi, Garissa, Wajir, Tana River, and Mandera, with further counties lined up in this transformative rollout.
The KJET Programme is intentionally designed to strengthen MSME competitiveness by equipping entrepreneurs with practical skills, business tools, and market-driven strategies. This directly supports BETA’s mission of enhancing productivity, building rural prosperity, and empowering enterprises to scale sustainably.
Through this project, businesses are now better positioned to:
- Improve operational efficiency and financial discipline
- Access markets and integrate into structured value chains
- Strengthen compliance, governance, and business formalisation
- Create jobs and drive inclusive local economic growth
As the implementing partner, EKV Group is driving a holistic BDS approach that goes beyond training. We are:
- Delivering the 12-module KJET BDS curriculum with practical, context-relevant insights
- Supporting entrepreneurs to diagnose gaps within their enterprises and co-create actionable growth plans
- Strengthening MSMEs’ capacity to withstand shocks, diversify revenue streams, and optimise their business models
- Enhancing cluster competitiveness by encouraging collaboration, collective efficiency, and shared market opportunities
Our mission is simple: equip entrepreneurs with the tools to thrive-not just survive-in a rapidly evolving economy.
Over the coming weeks, we will spotlight the real challenges MSMEs are grappling with—from access to capital, market linkages, and input costs to governance gaps and digital transformation hurdles.
More importantly, we will share how our team is working hand-in-hand with entrepreneurs to address these issues through practical interventions, coaching, and ecosystem partnerships.

Kenya is transitioning from a cash-basis to an accrual-basis accounting system & EKV Group is at the centre of this change!
It has been several months since our team of experts embarked on this key government project. Once completed, the new accounting framework will transform how pending bills are recognised and managed, leading to more predictable and timely payments to suppliers.
Beyond improving how obligations are tracked, the shift to accrual accounting introduces several benefits that directly impact businesses and individuals engaging with government.
These include faster and more transparent payments, reduced accumulation of pending bills, better budgeting and procurement planning, and clearer visibility of government’s true financial position.
Suppliers, contractors, and service providers will experience fewer disputes, more consistent contract cycles, and improved confidence when working with government.
Overall, the will strengthen accountability, enhance financial reporting, improve asset management, and create a more stable environment for businesses that rely on government procurement.

In the fast-paced world of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), business owners are often consumed with growth, customer acquisition, and managing day-to-day operations. Amid these demands, one strategic tool is frequently overlooked—the audit.
A well-conducted audit can serve as a powerful instrument for financial discipline, operational improvement, and sustainable growth.
𝟭. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁
Accurate financial statements are the backbone of any sound business. An audit verifies the completeness and accuracy of these records, instilling confidence among stakeholders such as investors, banks, suppliers, and even employees.
𝟮. 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗱
Regular audits help identify red flags and weaknesses in financial controls, making it harder for fraud to occur and easier to detect it early when it does.
𝟯. 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮
When financial data is audited and verified, business leaders can rely on it to make critical decisions—from budgeting to expansion plans—without second-guessing the numbers.
𝟰. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲
Audits help ensure SMEs stay compliant, avoiding costly penalties and legal complications.
𝟱. 𝗘𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴
Whether planning to sell the business, attract investors, or hand it over to the next generation, having audited financials simplifies valuations and due diligence, ensuring a smoother transition.
Audits are a strategic investment in the future of your business. For SMEs aiming to grow, scale, and sustain their operations, embracing audits is a smart move—one that delivers returns in trust, transparency, and long-term value.
EKV Group is a professional audit and advisory firm dedicated to supporting the growth and integrity of small and medium enterprises. We specialize in providing tailored audit solutions that not only meet regulatory requirements but also empower business owners with valuable insights and stronger financial foundations.
