How NRI save tax in Lakhs after selling residential property in India!
An NRI client came to us after selling a residential property in India.
While working out the capital gain, we asked a simple question:
“Have you ever filed an Income Tax Return in India?”
No.
Then we asked:
“Did you take a home loan for the property?”
Yes. And he had paid substantial interest.
Since he had never filed an Indian return, the interest had never been claimed as a deduction earlier.
After examining the complete facts and documents, we considered the eligible interest while computing the capital gain.
The outcome?
The tax deducted on the property sale was ultimately refunded in full.
Sometimes tax saving doesn't come from finding a new exemption.
It comes from asking the right question. DirectTax
