Fake IAS officer dupes people in MP: How a Vidhan Sabha vlog exposed her and led to her arrest😧

The most recent case to draw attention is that of Tripti Singh Rajput in Bhopal. Police say she allegedly posed as an IAS officer working as an additional director in the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department and used that identity to approach people with promises of government jobs, tourism property leases and access to officials.

Her alleged deception came under scrutiny after a video showing three women claiming to be IAS officers circulated online.

In the video, three women are seen talking to the camera and claiming to be IAS officers. One of them says they had come to attend the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha but were filming outside because photography was not allowed inside.

Another woman jokes that nobody would believe they were IAS officers by looking at their behaviour. The police investigation later found that the video was not filmed outside the Vidhan Sabha as claimed.

The location was traced to a gallery inside the Anthropological Museum complex. The two other women later told police that Rajput had asked them to act as IAS officers. They also
alleged that Rajput had taken 73 lakh from each of them on the promise of helping them become
IAS officers.

Rajput was arrested on August 23 by Chanderi police in Ashoknagar along with her brother Sudhanshu Singh. Police have registered multiple FIRs in Bhopal and Ashoknagar.

SEBI Unravels Varanium Cloud’s 62.51 Crore IPO Diversion Scam🤯🤯

What happened?

SEBI’s preliminary examination, triggered by media reports, uncovered violations by Varanium Cloud Limited (VCL) and its MD Harshawardhan Sabale, leading to a May 2024 interim order. The final order finds 62.51 crore of IPO and Rights Issue proceeds diverted to promoter-group entities - including 32.73 crore straight into the MD’s personal account - and orders it be brought back with 12% interest.

How did it happen?

VCL fabricated 594.32 crore of ā€œsalesā€ to an obscure offshore entity, Amtelfone Incorporated, with fictitious purchases and journal entries used to set off balances without any real money changing hands. 47% of IPO proceeds went to entities VCL had no actual business with.

How did SEBI find it?

By cross-checking VCL’s own ledgers against Amtelfone’s ledgers and bank records - trade receivables simply didn’t match, and no money was ever actually received.

Most interesting twist:

One noticee’s reply was ā€œapparently generated with the assistance of an Al agentā€ citing case laws that are ā€œnon-existent, exist but don’t contain the text quoted... or are totally out of context.ā€ A cautionary tale for Al-assisted litigation drafting.

What SEBI held:

ā€œThis was fraud on a considerable scale, executed brazenly with evident deliberation.
ā€œOn KMPs’ ā€œnot involvedā€ defence: ā€œtheir own signatures... tell a different story... They may not have been the masterminds, but they made the scheme possible.ā€

SEBI IMPOSED

a 7-year market debarment and R128.77 crore disgorgement for the MD; slightly lesser bars and penalties for directors, CFO, merchant banker and
ā€œaiders.ā€

Lesson: Signatures on a prospectus also carry personal accountability - ā€œI wasn’t involved in day-to-day affairsā€ is not a defence that works with SEBI.

CBI books Subhash Chandra, others over alleged ₹1,322-crore loss to LIC Housing Finance🤯

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against businessman Subhash Chandra and others for allegedly causing a wrongful loss of over ₹1,322 crore to LIC Housing Finance Limited (LICHFL) through misrepresentation of facts.

LICHFL lodged a complaint with the agency on August 31, 2026, and the case was registered the same day. The complainant alleged that LICHFL had granted two credit facilities based on Mr. Chandra’s personal guarantees executed in 2018

One loan of ₹500 crore was sanctioned for Vasant Sagar Properties Private Limited and Pan India Infraprojects Private Limited (co-borrower), and the second was of ₹480 crore to Digital Subscriber Management and Consultancy Services Private Limited and Spirit Infrapower and Multiventures Private Limited (co-borrower).

According to the FIR, the Vasant Sagar loan facility was granted based on a Net Worth Certificate submitted by Mr. Chandra, attesting that his net worth was ₹59,113.21 crore as on March 31, 2017. Another Net Worth Certificate, issued by a chartered accountancy firm on July 6, 2018, certified that his net worth was ₹40,562 crore.

The FIR alleged that in the course of subsequent proceedings under the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code for the personal insolvency resolution of Mr. Chandra, he categorically denied having the net worth stated in the certificates submitted to LICHFL for approval and disbursal of the loans.
