💼 TDS vs TCS – Don’t Confuse Compliance with Collection!
Many businesses still mix up Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and Tax Collected at Source (TCS) — and that confusion can lead to penalties, interest, and compliance notices.
🔎 Quick Reminder:
✔️ TDS is deducted by the payer at the time of payment/credit
✔️ TCS is collected by the seller at the time of sale
✔️ The “Either/Or” rule applies in certain transactions
✔️ Both have monthly deposit & quarterly return obligations
📌 Whether you're a business owner, contractor, trader, or professional — understanding the difference protects you from unnecessary litigation and cash flow issues.

Direct Tax collections are seeing steady growth this fiscal year! The latest provisional figures for FY 2025-26 (as of Feb 10, 2026) show that Net Direct Tax Collections have reached Rs. 19,43,743.97 Crore, marking a solid 9.40% growth compared to the same period last year.
While Gross Collections grew by just over 4%, a significant 18.82% drop in refunds has boosted the overall net revenue. It’s interesting to see Non-Corporate Tax (like individual income tax) contributing over Rs. 10 Lakh Crore to the pot.
