Building a business teaches you things no textbook can. Some lessons come from the wins. Others you learn the hard way. Here are 6 lessons I’ve picked up along the way that have shaped how I think about building a business.

Ten years later, the journey is still unfolding. ✨

5,126 failures. One breakthrough.

James Dyson built thousands of prototypes before creating a successful design. Each failure brought him closer to the solution.

The lesson? Keep experimenting. Your next attempt could change everything.

Liquid Death didn’t sell water. They sold a brand people wanted to be seen with. 💀💧

By turning an original commodity into a distinctive identity, they showed how powerful branding can be.

Confidence isn’t built by what you say you’ll do. It’s built by what you consistently follow through on, especially when no one else is watching.

Small promises kept every day can create a much stronger sense of self-belief than big declarations ever will.

I reread a book from my childhood last month.

It was A 3rd Serving of Chicken Soup for the Soul. I loved it as a kid without fully knowing why. Reading it again - older, running a company, spending most days chasing the next number - it landed completely differently.

Four things it drills into you quietly, through stories instead of theory:

- Small acts carry further than you think. A kind word or simply showing up can outweigh the grand gestures we spend so long planning.
- Everyone is carrying something you cannot see. Empathy stopped being an idea and became a way of looking at people.
- The moments you remember are rarely the milestones. They are the conversations, the friendships, the person who showed up when you needed them.
- Gratitude resets everything. It is easy to fixate on what is missing when you are always reaching for the next goal. These stories pull you back to what is already in front of you.

Here is what struck me most. I probably understood all of it the first time. What changed is that I have now lived enough to actually feel it.

Funny how the book stayed exactly the same, and somehow said more the second time.

A conversation about the things that shape a founder beyond the business.

What I do, what I don’t, the movie that inspires me, and one message I’d share with every entrepreneur building something of their own.

Because building a business is only part of the journey.

I have seen businesses do everything “right” and still fail.

Not because the product was weak, but because:

- Pricing did not reflect value
- Cash was not coming in on time
- People were busy, but not fully utilised

📌 If this sounds familiar - it is time to slow down, look deeper, and act decisively.
