Since IFRS 18 was published in April 2024, preparations for its entry into force on 1 January 2027 have been gathering pace. The IASB has continued its work on clarifying certain points regarding application of the standard, as shown by its recent publication of targeted amendments to IAS 28 on the fair value option. However, many issues remain unresolved: the IFRS IC’s meeting agenda for this month was largely focused on IFRS 18, resulting in seven tentative agenda decisions, which are open for comment until 9 September.

Major changes are also under way in the European sustainability reporting environment, with the European Commission (EC) adopting the final delegated acts on the revised European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and the voluntary standard on sustainability reporting.

Forvis Mazars in Hong Kong were delighted to be part of the World Chinese Accountants Consortium’s recent knowledge mission to Kuala Lumpur (8–10 July 2026) of which is supported by Guangdong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and The Society of Chinese Accountants & Auditors (SCAA). Our Audit & Assurance Partner, Sam Tsoi, who serves as the Honorary Treasurer and council member of SCAA, joined fellow delegates in a series of productive engagements with Malaysia’s key accounting professional and business bodies.

The programme featured insightful visits to the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, ACCA Malaysia, Wuxi Autowell Technology Co., Ltd, The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, and the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce. We also had the privilege of hosting the delegation at our Forvis Mazars in Malaysia office, where we exchanged perspectives on regional practices and cross-border opportunities.

Such exchanges reinforce our commitment to fostering strong professional networks across borders – essential in navigating today’s rapidly evolving financial landscape. We look forward to more collaborative initiatives that bridge communities and create shared value, and fully support the global expansion of Chinese Mainland enterprises.

Scaling New Heights: Elevating Financial Excellence Across APAC 🌐

Marking a major milestone, finance delegates from across the Asia-Pacific region recently gathered in person in Malaysia for an expanded APAC Finance Seminar 2026. Becky Yau, our Senior Finance & Admin Manager, and Adele Choy, our Finance Manager, joined the regional delegation for this important occasion. Serving as our very first regional finance seminar hosted in Malaysia, the event brought together a significantly larger cohort to exchange best practices, explore innovative financial frameworks, and collaborate on strategies for our next chapter of growth.

To mix business with well-deserved fun, the sessions took place by the beautiful coast of Port Dickson. The refreshing beachside setting provided the perfect backdrop for the regional team to unwind, experience local Malaysian culture, and build deeper cross-border relationships outside the standard office environment.

This milestone gathering underscores the power of unity across our regional desks. As our delegates return to their respective markets, the shared insights, strengthened alignment, and cross-border synergy will serve as the collective engine driving financial excellence and sustainable growth across the entire APAC region.

For CFOs, the conversation is ultimately about value. In our latest report, we explore the priorities CFOs should consider to help turn AI investment into business value: https://www.forvismazars.com/group/en/insights/latest-insights/digital-transformation-and-ai/ai-impact-hub

As organisations scale their AI investments, measuring success requires more than tracking deployments, pilots or technical milestones. The focus must be on adoption, business outcomes and realised returns. AI doesn’t create value simply because it has been implemented. Value emerges over time, unevenly across use cases and only when organisations are able to translate capability into measurable impact.
