PIAC supports Africa Extractive Media Fellowship with Technical Training

The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has facilitated a technical training session for participants in the second cohort of the Africa Extractive Media Fellowship (AEMF) on Thursday, July 8 in Accra.

Organised by the Newswire Africa with support from the Australian High Commission, the fellowship is aimed at strengthening the capacity of journalists to report effectively on the petroleum sector and extractive resource governance.

PIAC's presentations focused on "Petroleum 101", providing participants with a comprehensive overview of the petroleum value chain, Ghana's upstream petroleum industry, and the institutional and regulatory framework governing the sector, facilitated by the Technical Director, Mark O.A. Agyemang.

The Committee also delivered a session on petroleum revenue management facilitated by the Executive Secretary, Isaac Dwamena, Esq. His presentation highlighted Ghana's legal framework for managing petroleum revenues, the roles of key institutions (including PIAC), revenue allocation mechanisms, and the importance of transparency and accountability in ensuring that petroleum resources contribute to sustainable national development.

By contributing to the fellowship, PIAC reaffirmed its commitment to public education and stakeholder engagement, while supporting efforts to build a network of well-informed journalists capable of advancing transparency and accountability in Africa's extractive sector.
