Quick share from our colleague, Ali Jaw (AJ): below is what he has to say following his guest appearance on the new AAT podcast called Balancing Ambition.
“Still feeling grateful for this one 🎙️
I had the honour and absolute pleasure of joining AAT’s Balancing Ambition podcast to talk about AI, accountancy, careers, and the human skills that still matter in an AI world.
A huge thank you to the brilliant host Zoe Smith, my fellow guest John Toon, and everyone involved in bringing the episode together. It was such an enjoyable and thought-provoking conversation.
We spoke about how AI is already changing the way we work, but also why things like:
✅ Critical thinking
✅ Communication
✅ Professional judgement
✅ Ethics
✅ Trust
✅ Real-world experience
will always matter.
For me, AI is not about replacing accountants. It is about changing where we add value.
AI can help us work faster, summarise information and spot patterns, but it still needs human judgement, context and responsibility.
One line from the conversation really sums it up for me:
“AI can read the data. Humans read the situation.”
That’s where I believe the future of accountancy is heading:
Less routine processing.
More insight.
More strategy.
More human conversations.
More curiosity.
More judgement.
It was a real privilege to be part of this episode, and I hope it encourages students, trainees and finance professionals to stay curious, keep learning and embrace technology — without ever outsourcing their judgement.
Would love to know your thoughts:
What human skill do you think will always matter, no matter how advanced AI becomes?

A little throwback… 📚💚
These books bring back memories of long days, late nights, sacrifices, and countless hours of studying. They represent years of hard work, discipline, and determination to master our profession.
Sometimes people say, “Oh, that won’t take you long.” They’re right… It probably won’t.
But what they’re really paying for isn’t the few minutes it takes today, it’s the years of learning, exams, mistakes, experience, and continuous professional development that made it possible.
Expertise isn’t built overnight. It’s earned through dedication, consistency, and putting in the work when no one is watching.
Every qualified accountant has a story like this. These books are a reminder that before we became professionals, we were students who refused to give up.
Mastery is expensive. The work may look easy now, but that’s only because we paid the price years ago.
💚 To everyone still studying: keep going. One day, you’ll look back at your own stack of books with pride.
